holy shit my new favorite rapper! I never knew that i needed another Suga Free in my life but i guess i do!
Kaputt is one of 4 Destroyer classics and I include last years "Have we met" in those. People slept on that album!
i can love Ariel Pinks music and also hate Trump and his supporters. See also; Kanye.
based on the song I heard this week - Madlib – Sound Ancestors is the AOY.
it's tragic to me that he's gone but also that not many people know about Love as Laughter and Lync. Some great music that i truly think holds up. I will always love the Destination: 2000 CD that i still own and blast the song "Margarita" today in his honor.
i love light up gold- still listen to it. But i think that the Milano record was kinda slept on. Just me?
weird year obviously - but I absorbed so much streaming music and podcasts that they all seem to blur together and nothing really stands out. The 'gum list was interesting but I dont agree at all. The wrong Sault record! No Destroyer? here's my list: 1. Destroyer | Have We Met 2. SAULT | Untitled (Black Is) 3. Protomartyr | Ultimate Success Today 4. Osees | Protean Threat 5. Sleaford Mods | All That Glue 6. Freddie Gibbs | Alfredo 7. Jay Electronica | A written testimony 8. Yves Tumor | Heaven to a Tortured Mind 9. Shabazz Palaces | The Don of Diamond Dreams 10. Khruangbin | Mordechai 11. Sweeping Promises | Hunger for A Way Out
thank you for including Destroyer- a real miss for Stereogum gang.
I thought I was the only to make that Kool Keith/ ultramag to Lou Reed/ velvets comparison! Great writing as always Mr. Patrin!
he's sneakily incredible.. been putting out consistent quality for a couple years now. is he too chill to be a superstar?
love both records! i still can't believe he exists and is a part of the mainstream
i gotta give props to the griselda art directors. I'm generally pretty underwhelmed by their music but the covers are amazing! this one is particularly inspired!
i feel you on missing a sense of urgency on the last record-Shepherd in a Sheepskin Vest. I dont find myself checking for that too much.
agree and would add Dream River to this...
the Cleaners From Venus is one of my recent and most cherished new discoveries.
love this band so much. how great is "Worm in Heaven"? i need more Protomartyr power ballads in my life! one fave albums this year.
those lyrics make me want to cry! we dont deserve you Bill!
i need some Bill in this moment
i love this band. i think they deserve more credit than just being a great new wave band- they've got a top discography! so many great songs that hold up. Their greatest hits album is killer!
