I need to relisten to Electra Heart, as I thought it was a massive disappointment at the time, at the point I stopped listening to her, even though some of the songs, like "Radioactive" and "Primadonna" were actually really good. I thought she tried to pull off an entire album in "Shampain" mode, but it got exhausting (and this comes from someone who absolutely loves Shampain and thinks it might just be her song ever). The new album is a great surprise in tone though.
They are both really nice and all, but they still don't feel like the anthemic songs Rihanna gave us before her break. Here's hoping her actual album will deliver harder than this.
1. Ray Of Music
2. Erotica (I find it weird to see it strangely underrated and underappreaciated around these parts when it's such a big fan-favorite)
3. Bedtime Stories (same thing)
4. Madonna (debut)
5. Like a Prayer
6. Music
7. Confessions on a Dance Floor
8. Like a Virgin
9. Rebel Heart
10. True Blue
11. American Life
12. I'm Breathless (yes, it counts)
13. Hard Candy
14. MDNA
I hadn't thought of "U Got It Bad", but I thought "I Bet" was pretty similar to Beyonce's "Jealous" (not enough for accusations of plagiarism, but enough that I was reminded of it).
It's impossible for me to ever get tired of any of these songs. And that's a pretty perfect top 3. "Get Ur Freak On" has to be one of the songs I played the most through out my life.
I kinda call bullshit on that. Lana Del Rey is only ever playing a character when it suits her image. I feel her fans insist on this excuse to make up for the shit she does and says (kinda like Eminem's fans do), but it still doesn't change the fact the image she projects should be up for discussion just as any other artist should be. I don't like how Kim talked about this, but she has every right to criticize another female music artist talking bullshit about a cause she believes in, even if under the pretense of it all being an act.
But that's not necessarily a music category though. Actually, there are a few Grammy categories that aren't about music, because you don't need to be a musician to be recorded (hence the existence of a Spoken Word Album category, or whatever that's called).
