It's so weird that there's a version of Cayman Islands where Feist sings as well, hidden away on a 7" B-Side, never made available digitally. I listen to that version from time to time and it's really fantastic.
Feist bringing the boys together? Singing on two songs on the record? Erlend namechecking Jens Lekman? I can't be more excited. If you haven't seen this video, I'd recommend checking it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFsFht0Z3mw
I‘d also like to know how much the reunited Stone Roses recorded? Like, they released two new songs but then disappeared again? Surely, there must be more...
Huh. Interesting. Don't think I've ever disagreed this much with a "10 best songs" selection before.
Mine would be: "Lips and Limbs", "Silver", "Fire", "Can't Do Much", "Witches", "Blue", "La Loose", "You're Damaged", "8 Ball", "The Eye"
This site and BrooklynVegan are the only music blogs that didn't start to suck at some point (or got underminded by questionable taste). Couldn't donate fast enough! Would also support you guys on Patreon, btw)
I understand all your concerns but the thing I miss the most about this era of music is that these bands were always able to at least be good on stage. I go to Primavera Sound in Barcelona every year where there are always a lot of new-ish Indie acts on the line-up – and I like most of these bands very much but man do most of these acts suuuuuuck live. For someone who attends concerts since the late 90ies this is something of a recent phenomenon.
True! But there's a difference between «We also cover mainstream pop music!» and «Our top 4 albums of the year are basically interchangeable with the Grammy nominations»
No. But for every post that gets written about yet another Cardi B music video another one about an artist that gets no coverage at all does not get written.
Cardi B will sell out arenas and records no matter how many times the 'Gum's gonna write about her and no matter where her record ranks on the year end list. The experimental garage dubstep fusion band from Milwaukee however, does not.
Cardi B will also get her press coverage from lots and lots of sources, mostly written by people who could not tell me what the 10 best Lambchop songs or the 10 best bands from the Milwaukee garage dubstep fusion scene are. So when a writer who could actually recontextualise Lambchop songs and Milwaukee garage dubstep fusion bands (aka every Stereogum writer) uses his time to write yet another piece about an artist that is also on the cover of Billboard magazine, I just find this some kind of wasted resources, I dunno.
