As self-proclaimed and proud video game nerd since the early '90s - as well as PUP's self-titled released being one of my favorites of 2014 - I nearly just exploded with excitement over this!
Ahh, yea... I hear that. Bloodborne is kinda the same way for me - while I don't think it's as tough as the Dark Souls' series, it's still got that hard old-school game type factor to it which will lead me to step away from it for a bit when I get frustrated. It'll probably take me at least a year to beat it at the rate I'm going haha but hey, at least we got our money's worth I guess?

Dark Souls II is on my incredibly long backlog of games... but I'm currently playing Bloodborne and LOVING it! Highly recommend it once you finish DS II if you haven't checked it out already. :)
I totally thought "Dark Souls" when I saw the You Died at the end as well. Either way, both awesome games, and an equally awesome video. "KVM" is probably my favorite track on the album and Claire completely nailed it by bringing the feel and mood of the song to life. Welp, off to watch it again now...

I agree with all the KFAD love, I would put that album at #3 on my own personal list, right behind The Real Thing and Angel Dust. It's hard to argue with Angel Dust being the clear winner at #1 - it's brilliance hasn't aged a bit.
I actually just recently watched a live-stream of FNM's show in Detroit and it was pretty great - definitely one of the better reunion shows I've witnessed, that's for sure. Well, with one exception: they had Mosley come out during the encore to sing lead on "We Care A Lot" and it was pretty bad. To be fair, I was never a fan of the 2 earliest albums... but that performance not only did nothing to redeem his vocals for me, it was downright cringe-worthy.
Add trying to download one of their spur of the moment albums to that "what's harder" list... just tried and the page is already offline and unavailable.
Yea, so... even with the forewarning, I STILL was unprepared for that slo-mo upchuck shot; which, just in case anyone was wondering, is totally real according to HEALTH's most recent tweet.
Grossed-out feelings aside though, this track is fan-freaking-tastic and I'll most definitely be adding Death Magic to my album pre-order list.
This. A million times over. I live in Chicago and even though I think it's a decent line-up... I just can't do it. The disinterested crowds, overpriced everything, and extremely unbearable August heat and humidity are the 3 strikes against it for me every year. Admittedly though, I've reached the age where I'm just entirely unable to conquer 3-day fests like I used to. *sigh* It's been a hard road learning to accept the truth of my age of its limits... alas, I have risen above, and come to terms with just seeing the artists I want when they come back around on their individual tours.
Upvote this X10000... you nailed it. Tuesday was great for "New Release Day" because it gave me something to look forward to during the week. My Tuesday routine was always: get to work, fire up the computer, check out every music site and/or the list I keep on my phone - yes, I'm one of those list nerds - and add all the new albums I remotely have any interest in into my Spotify 2015 (or whatever year it is) playlist. If it was album I hadn't pre-ordered already, I had the rest of the week to take note of which ones I enjoyed enough to go out over the weekend and buy. Plus, like you said, it also gave me the perfect amount of time to have an album resonate, that by the time Friday would roll around, I would have my weekend "jam out" albums/tracks all ready to go. The same thing goes for my group of friends, so I'm going to miss all of us getting together over the weekend and discussing what new music we found and trying to one-up each other, haha. Alas, I suppose now when we all hang out we can discover new music and tunes collectively at the same time which is kinda cool.

I'm, admittedly, a huge Alice In Chains fan... or, was, anyway. Anything post-Layne isn't really "Alice In Chains" to me, but that's a whole other topic entirely so I'll save my thoughts on that issue and just comment on the one at hand...
This is pretty darn hilarious! In the AIC "Music Bank" box set, it includes a couple of songs that were pre-Facelift, late '80's hair-metal style: "I Can't Have You Blues," "Whatcha Gonna Do," "Social Parasite" etc... and I confess, I can't help but totally love them. It's also interesting to listen to that box set and hear the complete 180 progression of the band throughout the coarse of it. It starts with those mindlessly fun songs and then each disc progressively gets deeper and darker with songs about addiction, helplessness, and despair. Facelift will always be my favorite AIC album because it includes a little bit of both sides of the band.
Oh, and Cerebus is totally right... the media definitely created the term "grunge" and initiated all the hype around it. It's still unclear who exactly coined it first, but from what I remember, it was first derived from an album review printed in a UK magazine or newspaper that described the guitars on the record as "grungy." The rest is "he said/she said" on who labeled the entire genre as grunge, but as Cerebus said, it was solely created due to the Seattle scene blowing up and the media needing a way to market it. It's for those reasons that the bands and their fans during that time-period wanted and still want nothing to due with the word.
My condolences, RJ... so sorry to hear about your grandma. I lost mine as well at the very beginning of the year, she was admitted to the hospital on NYE to be exact... so to say that I can relate would be an understatement. Your analogy was beautifully perfect, hang in there my friend. *hugs*
Bugs aside, I dig the new layout and think it will be better in the long-run once everything gets sorted out. I know as far as the mobile version goes, it's a MILLION times better and a hell of a lot easier to navigate. I also had NO IDEA The 'Gum Mix even existed until today! How did I miss that thing over the years? Welp, the important thing is, I found it now and bookmarked it. Just like the Goonies, #MP3SNEVERSAYDIE

I agree that the locked grooves is a little bit of an annoyance and it definitely won't be a record I'll throw on during my workout routines, that's for sure... alas, for $16, great bands, and the proceeds going to charity, I can look past it.

Haha seriously though, I don't think his voice is similar to Cobain (in my opinion anyway, music is subjective after all, and I personally just don't get the same vibe tone-wise) and to be 100% honest, while I have complete respect and admiration for Cobain himself, I was never the biggest fan of Nirvana's music growing up. I loved the "grunge" scene in my youuth - actually just read an incredible oral-history type book on it called "Everybody Loves Our Town" that I can't recommend enough - but as hard as I tried, Nirvana was one of the few bands of that era that - save a few tracks - just didn't resonant as much as the likes of Alice In Chains, Mother Love Bone, Soundgarden, Tad, and many others did.
That all being said... I cannot stop listening to this, Tillman knocked it out of the park and I honestly haven't been this obsessed with a cover in a long, long time. Sometimes less is more, and while the song may be minimal in the actual instrumental department, the choice to leave the primary focus on his haunting and impassioned - but not over-doing it - voice was a wise one.
Sorry for the ramblings, but I hadn't heard this until this morning upon doing my daily visit to the 'Gum and I have been coming back to this page every hour since. I decided it was finally time to commit to leaving a damn comment already, haha
I met Unwritten Law in 2002 at my local Tower Records when they were doing an acoustic show and a album signing for Elva. They were 2 hours late and completely piss ass drunk when they finally showed... but, in their defense, they brought a bunch of pizzas for everyone waiting in line... so I forgave them.
The moral of the story: Pizza heals all wounds.
