This is really shitty news, but seemed like it was inevitable after all the public airing of grievances from Keith last month. I’m sure most stereogummers probably aren’t super familiar, but these guys were a phenomenal band. Almost like a metalcore Spoon, they’ve just been plugging away for 20 years putting out really good album after really good album. And they put on a hell of a live show. Really bummed that they are going out like this.
I mean I’m not sure anything he’s done has ever topped Ladies and Gentleman… We Are Floating In Soace, but the Spiritualized discog has no misses. The guy is unbelievable. If you haven’t gotten into the Spacemen 3 catalogue yet I would definitely recommend checking that out as well!
Really hyped for this album, all three of these songs we’ve gotten so far have been fantastic.
This beat is nice, and Earl sounds clearer and more focused than he has in a long time. This slaps
One of the sets I’m pretty bummed that I missed because I heard they were fantastic
This was my first time attending Shaky Knees, and while I thought it was a pretty well run/organized festival I did definitely leave feeling pretty underwhelmed. The energy from the crowds at most the sets was really dull/almost non-existent (with some exceptions for sure, Idles for example had a fantastic crowd with energy to spare). It seemed like the main stage was having some technical issues all day yesterday which multiple artists alluded to. And both Mac Demarco and Phoebe Bridgers seemed to suffer from the same issue on the second stage where their vocals were mixed so low they were hard to even hear at times during their sets. As for The Strokes… I can definitely see why some people left disappointed or were put off by their performance, but it was more or less exactly what they’ve shown you should expect from them over the last decade or so. I thought the set list was great, the banded sounded great, the light show was fantastic, and Julian missed cues and forgot lyrics left and right exactly like he always does… but that crowd gave them nothing in return.
The actual best song on Angles
Hadn’t thought about before... but yeah. I’m sure they do
I had to google it to confirm because I had no idea, but holy shit.... dude looks like a 15 year old that would be started a MCR cover band now
So all I’ve gotten from These recent anecdotes is that not only does Moby look like a penis, his personality seems awfully dick-ish too
Saw them perform the album with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra a couple of months ago and it was really something. Definitely not a set to skip
Not sure about all of the negativity surrounding this. Like everyone else I’ve found it hard not to be indifferent if not outright annoyed with basically everything about Kanye in this past year, but everything I’ve seen from these Sunday services has been really cool. And in seems to be a step back in the direction of that “old Kanye” everyone claims to miss so much. Idk, I’m pretty excited to see how it turns out.
Good on Vic Mensa. Xxx was a really awful excuse of a human being and the fact that he died young doesn’t mean we should pretend that he didn’t spend his time on this earth doing awful vile things.
Yeah if we’re gonna hold people like 6ix9ine accountable for sexually predatory behavior shouldn’t we acknowledge that Ghandi was an innaporpriate creep too?
I’d submit Billy Swan’s cover of “Don’t be Cruel” https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-STFyfsdoVA
Yeah, this isn’t terrible but I’m convinced the people really hyping it up haven’t even heard it. I can’t imagine myself ever coming back to listen to this again
I saw them probably 8 years ago when they were touring American Slang and remember leaving under the impression that they were absolutely one of the best rock bands in the world. And The 59 Sound is a monster of an album. Shame to hear they didn’t get the appreciation they deserved at Govs Ball and hopefully it won’t influence whether they decide to play more of these shows because I’d love to see them again
One of my favorites. Also remember reading this comment left on a video of the song on YouTube and it holds up as one of my favorite YouTube comments ever: “I was the only witness to a horrific car crash in ’ 62, two young guy drag racing in a city. Telstar was playing on one of the car radios.when I walked up to it. I felt like those who died were being carried to heaven on the sound waves of this song, I was 12 yrs old at the time. I actually felt the touch of death itself but also the afterlife as well…..something there. I still get that same feeling of assention, chills and shivers every time I here this song”
I’m a huge Kanye Stan that’s always been willing to ignore the attention grabbing antics that he uses to drum up publicity for every album cycle, but based off the music we’ve been hearing from him in this last week I don’t think I’m even gonna be able to bring myself to listen to the album when it comes out. These songs have honestly been way more embarrassing and indefensible than the stupid shit he’s saying on twitter to get his name back in the headlines
