300 ---> Roman Numeral ---> CCC ---> Cool, Calm, Collected You're welcome.
If you compartmentalize indie rock, that means you are dividing up indie rock into separate and isolated categories. And according to your opening sentence, these isolated categories are: Quaint, Narrow, and Embarrassing. I'm assuming what you meant is that music is being compartmentalized, and that indie rock is one of those compartments, and that particular compartment is currently being labeled as quaint, narrow, and embarrassing. My difficultly stems from trying to read a sentence that isn't saying what it is trying to mean.
Indie Rock is already a "compartment" created from the act of compartmentalizing music as a whole. To use a different word, it is a genre. Although, this is arguable, because indie music derives it's name from the business model it uses, while rock is a fusion of different genres (mainly blues and country western). The term "indie rock", though, has come to describe something all its own. So you are saying that the current fad is to take that one genre of music and split it apart and separate it into further categories -- quaint, narrow, and embarrassing. So we have quaint indie rock, narrow indie rock and embarrassing indie rock. Am I following this right? Those are the three compartments that indie rock has been separated into under this new fad? Do you see why this is confusing? What about all the other kinds of indie rock? And aren't all three of those different compartments of indie rock really all talking about the same thing? Like... say... The Decemberists and bands like them? I, too, thought maybe you meant to use the word "condensed", but when I think about it, that doesn't make much sense either. What exactly are you trying to say?
I think people are confused because your sentence doesn't make any sense, not because you didn't link us to another badly-written stereogum article. The word compartmentalize is used incorrectly in the sentence. I think you meant to used "condensed" or "distilled" or something similar. Instead you used a word that almost means the opposite. Hence the confusion.
Angelina Jolie made a huge mistake. The elective and "preventative" double mastectomy that she underwent was completely unnecessary and unfortunately sets a horrible, public precedent for everyone who is afraid of the possibility of breast cancer. Please understand as I get into this that my purpose is not to judge the actress or others who have made the same decision. My aim is to point out the tragic and catastrophic failure of the American medical system to treat or manage ANY chronic disease - in this case: breast cancer. The sad truth is that the standard medical interventions for breast cancer have a pathetic track record at improving health outcomes and life expectancies for those who suffer from breast cancer. Treatments like chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery are ineffective long term and each of them serves to PROMOTE the spread of cancer cells throughout the body: metastasis. The medical community's answer to this is earlier detection and more radical "preventative" measures. The approach is all about mitigating inflated "potential" risk - placing women into categories, labeling them with a risk quotient, and prescribing useless treatment with no further consideration of patient's wishes or alternative methods. Here are a SEVEN FACTS to consider when thinking about this issue: 1. Only 5-6% of cancers are hereditary - Familial "risk" is essential a moot point when compared to environmental and lifestyle factors that contribute to the development of cancerous growths. 2. Detection and diagnostic procedures such as mammograms and biopsies actually PROMOTE the growth and spread of cancers. 3. Cancers of every stage, type, and location are REVERSED every day through natural, safe, and common sense lifestyle measures. 4. Medical doctors are legally bound to recommend standard interventions such as chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery at risk of losing their license or going to jail. It's called "Standard of Care" and there are serious repercussions for deviating from it. 5. The formation of a tumor is a NATURAL and APPROPRIATE reaction of the body to a toxic or physiologically dangerous environment. It is not a disease - it is your body's answer to the hostile environment created by toxicity, inadequate nutrition, and a depressed immune system. 6. Standard medical treatments for cancer do NOTHING to address the CAUSES of the cancer in the first place - apart from increasing exposure to radiation, harmful toxins (chemotherapy), and introducing otherwise walled-off cancer cells into the blood stream through surgeries and biopsies. If nothing is done to address the cause, how could we possibly expect to avoid a more dangerous metastatic relapse in the future? 7. The detection, treatment, and awareness campaigns for all types of cancer is a TRILLION dollar industry. With so much funding being poured into "research" for new treatments and detection methods - we are in a worse state now than when our government declared a "War on Cancer" in the Nixon administration. Follow the money. Please understand that it is not my intent to browbeat or turn a judgmental eye towards anyone who is been affected by cancer. There is an enormous amount of misinformation, faulty logic, and corruption out there regarding cancer. Angelina Jolie is the next in the long line of unfortunate and tragically public victims that will only serve to further the fear-mongering surrounding a condition that is both reversible and safely manageable.
i just took it as a peek into what happened. i didn't think the movie said much of anything - it was just a faithful re-telling of recent history - muddy waters, for sure, but this is the world in which we live. if anything it showed how desensitized we can become to something like torture, which is obviously awful. during her first interrogation she is visibly shaken, but as the years go on, she looses that sense of right and wrong and her only driving force is vengeance. so i guess the movie did say something!
but... they are. did you want them to give us a heavy-handed "lesson" about torture or something?
my favorite movie was "wall journal" by liltrucker123 on youtube.
In all seriousness: I am not a fan of Mitt Romney. But I hate that I have to preface any political statement with that fact. That should only matter in certain specific arguments where opinion comes into play. But when we're simply dealing with facts and actual events and actual things that were said, I shouldn't have to put a bumper sticker on my ass so everyone will know how to judge any statement I make. But I get it! Life doesn't work that way or whatever! It's just that logic is often thrown out the window here on monster.com. I rarely comment on this site for that very reason (and because I'm not as funny as you, facetaco. Seriously, I regularly "SMDH" and "LOL" at your comments.) Now I know most of the time it is all fun and trampoline accidents and logic is neither here-nor-there, but sometimes Gabe gets all seriousgum and so do the comments. Which is great! I like having serious discussions sometimes. Especially with people I don't always agree with. But the lack of nuanced thought that goes into a lot of those serious posts bothers me. Gabe's whole premise here is that Mitt Romney, like all politicians is an asshole. GOOD PREMISE! They almost always are! I think politics is an asshole magnet. Assholes just can't wait to put their stupid head with their stupid face and stupid haircut up on a billboard and kiss everyone's babies. Assholes. And I think Mitt Romney falls VERY nicely into this stereotype. He seems like a huge asshole! The problem is that I don't think this video adds, in any way, to his asshole-ness.
Thanks for that. I COULDN'T have said it better myself.
I wasn't trying to invalidate Gabe's entire argument. I could do that, but it would be a waste of time because you will just agree with Gabe no matter what. You are with him, you are dependent upon him for his snarky comments, trampoline videos, and Goop retweets. You believe the Gabe has a responsibility to care for you, you believe that you are entitled to Sad Keanu, BNPGs, and friendly chats. That... that's an entitlement. And Gabe should give it to you. And you will love Gabe no matter what.
Hey Gabe, when did Mr. Mittens say these people are lazy? You put that part in quotes, so I'm assuming you are quoting somebody not just making stuff up to make your argument more sound.
Good! That is what I can tell all the people who were sitting around me also barfing.
True Story: I saw Bucket List two years ago, but I don't remember it at all because I was too busy barfing. I was on a ferry boat traveling between islands in the Caribbean. I got sea sick and spent the entire trip throwing up into a bag. In between hurls, I would look up at the TV above my seat and watch Bucket List. Fuck that movie.
it sure is! i actually got to meet him when he was here (in nashville) filming the movie. he plays in her band throughout the movie. we just talked about the cardinals the whole time, so i didn't get a chance to ask him how much he hated goop.
oh, me too. i now almost have the good will and confidence to roll out of bed and face the day. ALMOST.
