I worked at the radio station in Irvine for a lot of years. So weird seeing that city's name on this site haha. I miss tacos...
I'd say Labor Days or the Fast Cars, Danger, Fire and Knives EP. I agree with Squee, though: don't start with Bazooka Tooth. It's lyrically and vocally fantastic, but Aesop's production misses the mark; it's a tough starting point.
I think Justin Vernon has made an art out of using Antares' vocal processing tools. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vvp305B9FoQ
Thanks, will do!
Had the privilege of attending last year. They're creating something special up there in Eau Claire and this line-up looks to be in that same spirit. It's tough to make the commute from Japan but hopefully the stars align for me to return to the river. The consolation will be seeing Bon Iver in a couple weeks in Tokyo!
Yesss... missed the last post and didn't know they had a new one in the works. This made my day.
I used to think that line was dumb until one day, years after the song came out, it dawned on me that ancient Egyptians revered cats and even mummified and buried them.
I didn't use Siri until the "Hey, Siri" feature came out. Now I scream things at her all the time while driving; it's great for text messaging in LA traffic.
I'm wondering if there's some semantic quirk that they've overlooked in the Siri software*. I just asked Siri to "search the web for the number one song in the US in March 1983" and she gave me the same list that appears in the screenshot. *naive thinking with these corporations, but you never know.
Yes. And frustratingly so as the melody never resolves itself.
Aside from the biggies, my highlights from yesterday were Colin Stetson (the man is superhuman; he never ceases to amaze me) and Melt-Banana (as a part-time Tokyo denizen, it was nice to have a taste of "home" deep in the Midwest). I have to admit to being more than a bit frustrated Friday morning with seemingly endless shuttle delays and long line after long line, but the first performance I caught quickly alleviated all the tension. That set was from The Lone Bellow, who I'd never heard before. The crowd was sparse but rapt and the collaboration with the Blind Boys of Alabama was a thing of beauty. The Blind Boys set later in the day really touched me and I had a blast at Doomtree. The Tallest Man set was great as well—used to seeing him in small spaces, but the dude has more than enough charisma and chops to pull off late-day festival billing. The few who stuck around to see Francis and the Lights instead of marching up the hill were treated with a strong performance. I'll stop or I'll keep rambling. Been to many festivals in the last 20+ years and this one was truly special. Amazing sound, production, performances, community, everything. More than worth the risk of heat stroke.
I live abroad for most of the year and KDAY is approaching the In-N-Out level of "things I miss the most about LA." There's something wonderful about hopping in the car, rolling down the windows, blasting KDAY, and basking in the nostalgia and dirty air. SiriusXM has a solid throwback station called "Backspin" which I listen to sometimes overseas.
"Holy shit / I'm God's manure." - classic Wayne
This song is great. Need more bands to fill the WU LYF vacuum. Also, I wonder if they know they spelled Kaiju wrong on their album art. Perhaps it's intentional.

So, A&M is taking advantage of the untimely death of a man to further profit off of an album recorded in response to the untimely death of a man. Nice.
Monday night in Tokyo just got a lot more exciting!
Amber Coffman (of Dirty Projectors) has a solo record in the works that I'm curious/excited about.
