Best Video of 2007

While "2 Girls 1 Cup" got its share of votes, it wasn't enough to beat Justice and their magic tees. Tough to say how much Nano-lash factored into the "1234" turnout, but still Leslie sits at No. 2, a rainbow cast of dancers ahead of Zach and Will's air-humping, Battles' Mirrored cubist jam, and Natasha's Donnie Darko bit. And we don't know how much "Stronger" cost Kanye (a million dollars, fam?), but it wasn't enough to make the top ten. Still, Mr. West has something to celebrate with four Graduation vids in the top 50, joining the ranks of Battles (two) and Spoon (two) as this year's repeat offenders. One gripe: where's Robyn, kids? And to the voter who submitted: "what videos? they still make those?" ... yup, and this year had some good ones.

That Bat for Lashes video is very good. She's somewhat overrated, but that video's gold.

I voted for "Peacebone". So nice.

Agreed Thom, "Real Talk" is video of the decade.

But on another note, people still fucking watch music videos?

Have to say I was a little upset that none of those pretty good They Might Be Giants videos made the list.

Animated and interesting, fun to watch. Some of the videos on that list are pretty pedestrian - even if the songs/ bands are pretty sweet.

So, let me get this straight: Matt & Kim's "Yeah Yeah" is a worse video than anything on the video list, Deerhoof was worse than anyone on the top live acts, and Josh Ritter is uglier than anyone for Mr. Indie Rock?

Quit Your Day Job: Ungdomskulen

The Bergen trio Ungdomskulen play proggy post punk, mixing chops and hooks with a sense of humor. But they don't sound like Primus. When I was in Norway a couple years ago, "Ungdomskulen" seemed to be on everybody's lips (or...

Premature Evaluation: Beck - Modern Guilt

It's been some time since we learned Modern Guilt, Beck Hansen's eighth album, would be some sort of psych rock minimalist '60s trip with Danger Mouse. Since then, we've gotten a look at the old-school jazz/Blue Note-style cover art and...
