Biography: Arcade Fire
Arcade Fire, a septet from Montreal, Canada fronted by husband/wife Win Butler and Régine Chassagne, write anthemic songs that involve group singing. Their breakthrough album was 2004's Funeral. By the time Neon Bible came out to great acclaim in 2007, David Bowie and David Byrne were longtime fans. The Foo Fighters covered Neon's "Keep The Car Running," which means Dave Grohl is a fan, too. Win Butler, in turn, is a fan of Barack Obama.

RECENT POSTS ABOUT ARCADE FIRE
Our pals at Videogum commented on P4K's report that Arcade Fire are soundtracking Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly's new sci-fi horror flick The Box.
Well, now Win Butler's telling the internet to calm down because it's not exactly true. Via Win's Blog:
Hi everyone. Hope you are having a great spring...

Speaking of veteran Elephant 6ers, last month longstanding Athens-born crew Elf Power released their ninth album In A Cave via Rykodisc. They recorded "Mutiny" during those Cave sessions, but the gem didn't end up on the final tracklist. No worries, we included it in this week's Drop. We also spoke with frontman Andrew Rieger about the horn-lined chunk of psychedelic pop's apocalyptic storyline. Read his Derrick Jensen-themed response and listen to "Mutiny" over here.

In addition to those sounds, we offered a chance to win a limited-edition, signed, and numbered Arcade Fire and Superchunk "Change Rocks" poster.

We already knew Win was all about Obama, but now Merge house band Superchunk's also thrown their Barack support into the ring (sorry Britt, maybe Mac will run for office next time). The two groups are in the midst of performing a pair of afternoon all-ages shows in NC, hoping to inspire folks to vote for their candidate. One took place yesterday at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex Pavilion Parking Lot and there's another today at the Carrboro Town Commons. (If you're in NC, hurry up: Gates open at 1PM and the show starts at 2PM. Tickets are free, but you need 'em to get in -- last-minute info here.) Can't make it and missed yesterday? No worries, the message translates OK via video.

All four original members of Jane's Addiction performed together for the first time in too long at the El Rey last night. The occasion was the NME Awards USA, where the legendary LA band accepted a Godlike Genius Award (joining godlike alumni Clash, New Order, and Primal Scream). Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, Stephen Perkins, and Eric Avery (the holdout since '91) played "Jane Says," "Mountain Song," "Ocean Size," and "Stop." Reuters reports that Farrell thanked the crowd by "alternately guzzling from a bottle of red wine and dispensing its contents to fans in the mosh pit." Sounds like a show. Here's some shaky cam of "Ocean Size," from a dude rocking out in the front row.

There's a great point here to be made for future political campaigns: If you're going to have a band perform some 11th hour concerts in support of your candidate, make sure the internet loves that band like it does Arcade Fire. Because while most blogs and music news sites want to steer clear of endorsing a particular political candidate either expressly or via peripheral coverage ... if Arcade Fire covers Bowie and Lennon at a rock for Barack show in Ohio we are powerless as mere bloggers to resist the post. As they did on Saturday, Win & Co. played two sets last night in Cleveland to accommodate the swell of Obama/Fire fans. Stereogum reader Logan was there and delivers us this photo and the setlist, while some other youngster passionate about politics and/or seeing Arcade Fire live delivers the YouTube.
