MTV Lets Us Know Portland Has Bands, Basements, Rain, Trees

Echoing Slate's out-of-date Portland exposé from this past fall, MTV's followed the momentum of their Brooklyn 2008 piece with a feature on PDX. What we learn: There are a lot of bands who live there, it's still relatively cheap, it...  CONTINUE READING MTV LETS US KNOW PORTLAND HAS BANDS, BASEMENTS, RAIN, TREES»

SXSW: Stereogum's Texas Music Trivia - Round 1

The people of Austin are nice enough to welcome thousands (and thousands) of vagabond music fans into their city for a few days each year, so we decided to pay their stomping ground homage with a friendly game of Texas...  CONTINUE READING SXSW: STEREOGUM'S TEXAS MUSIC TRIVIA - ROUND 1»

World's Most Perfect MacBook Air Case, Designed By Jona Bechtolt

At the Macworld keynote, Steve Jobs pulled Air out of a manila envelope, and now the folks at Engadget are giving props to the "quick-thinking duo" Jona Bechtolt and Claire L. Evans, who designed AirMail, a replica case made of "durable upholstery-grade vinyl and lined with fuzzy, soft fleece." Handmade, apparently. "Oh, if only we were this clever," say the Engadgeteers. But no mention that when he's not busy becoming a tech-blog darling, Bechtolt's busy being a music-blog darling as YACHT. No surprise the laptop-beat pop man's got a crush on computers, but now we finally realize why Bechtolt left the Blow; dude had to focus on his career capitalizing on Apple fever. Only $29.95! See a penny, pick it up.

New YACHT - "See A Penny (Architecture In Helsinki Remix)"

On Location With YACHT, Architecture In Helsinki

A couple of our favorite artists are rolling out high-concept vids for their blog-sweeping tracks and were good enough to pass along some still shots from the "sets," as it were. Doubt you'll argue that Jona in a penny suit...  CONTINUE READING ON LOCATION WITH YACHT, ARCHITECTURE IN HELSINKI»
