A few years ago, Clipse launched a clothing line called Play Cloths, and I’m not sure I’ve ever seen any non-Clipse human beings wearing their clothes. Nonetheless, Clipse rapper and recent Kanye beneficiary Pusha T recently cranked out a mixtape to go along with the Play Cloths holiday collection. It’s creatively titled Play Cloths Holiday 2011. The big news on that mixtape: It features a track called “Oooh,” in which Pusha and old Re-Up Gang buddy Ab-Liva (now calling himself Liva Don for some reason) link up with Odd Future upstarts Hodgy Beats and Tyler, The Creator. Pusha T’s sequel to last year’s Fear Of God mixtape is a full-blown LP called Fear Of God II out on Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music imprint/Decon, and it’s packed with some of rap’s contemporary heavy-hitters like Mr. West, Young Jeezy, Tyler The Creator and Juicy J. While Fear Of God overreached a little, in terms of projecting Pusha onto poppier stuff, Fear Of God II definitely finds Pusha returning to his gritty, grandiose gangster rap wheelhouse on songs like “Amen,” “What Dreams Are Made Of,” and “Body Work.” Hit the stream and read a quick interview with Pusha at Rolling Stone.

Clipse rapper Pusha T has been a bit inconsistent since he went solo recently. But the new track “What Dreams Are Made Of,” which you can grab below, is just nasty. It’s a hard strings-and-organ pound with Pusha sneering crime-kingpin boasts with the deadpan fury that won him a place in our hearts in the first place. He’s rapping slower than he used to, but he’s doing it with some Rick Ross larger-than-life snarl in his delivery, so it works. And it opens with a classic sampled Ric Flair rant, which always sounds awesome.

Somehow, billing an artist to play their most famous release, exclusively, got super vogue all of the sudden. Nas did Illmatic. Erykah Badu did Baduizm. A Tribe Called Quest did Midnight Marauders. So, yeah, some good stuff got covered, but what else is there? Clipse MC Pusha T has assembled a pretty strong gutter-rap all-star team for his new single “Body Work.” The track co-stars Philly livewire Meek Mill, Bronx slow-flow stylist French Montana, and veteran Three 6 Mafia knucklehead Juicy J, the latter of whom absolutely steals the track with a powerful display of unadulterated goonism. Hope you guys enjoyed the pizza party. We’re a little bummed Twin Shadow lost Best Swagger Coach, but at least we got to see Ke$ha in the trash bag she deserves. As a reward for sitting through the whole thing was this eye-catching performance from Twitter’s Kanye West, who we haven’t heard from in a while. (Isn’t it weird none of the VJs even mentioned Twitter?). For the plinky toast to douchebags and assholes, Yeezy sported a cherry red suit and got assistance from “Good Friday” cohort Pusha T and a bunch of ballerinas.

Common, Pusha T, Kid Cudi, Big Sean, and Charlie Wilson guest on “Good Friday,” the laid-back, Freddie Scott (or Biz Markie?) sampling title track from @KanyeWest‘s forward-thinking digital singles series. The rapper’s apparently been having a blast at NY’s Fashion Week kickoff (“This is the best night of my life,” he tweeted tonight, hours after proclaiming “This might be the greatest day of my life!!!”). His early morning at Boom Boom Room looked pretty best as well.

Last fall Diesel celebrated its 30th birthday in Brooklyn with a concert by N.E.R.D., Franz Ferdinand, T.I., and a very pregnant M.I.A. So expectations for last night’s Diesel:U:Music event and its promise of very special guests were high (like planes) (sorry). Jay-Z would probably show up and spit with the Roots? He is in town! Hipsters adore him! But Jay-Z did not show up. Even though everyone was chanting his name all night! Scheduled co-headliner Drake did not show up either. He is nursing a torn ACL. Solange too was a no-show. She had better things to do I guess. But there were plenty of other performers: the Roots, Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt, Heartsrevolution, The Noisettes, Passion Pit, Lykke Li, Theophilus London (with The Very Best’s Esau Mwamwaya), Cobra Starship, Clipse, and … Kanye West. This was not the rapper-turned-furniture blogger’s first surprise cameo at a denim party this year. Should’ve guessed.
