Portlandia‘s already been good for unexpected cameos (Aimee Mann, Steve Buscemi, Aubrey Plaza, plus many others). And it looks lik Portlandia is upping the number of musical cameos. Next week Colin Meloy, James Mercer, and Corin Tucker will guest star as fictional band Echo Echo (sorry guys). Check out a clip of the sketch below. Remember, Corin Tucker is Portlandia star/creator Carrie Brownstein’s former bandmate. So this is perhaps as close to a Sleater-Kinney reunion as you’ll see for a while.

UPDATE: The tracks were mislabeled, this one’s actually called “Doubt.”

A couple weeks back we learned that Corin Tucker’s awaited solo LP had a name, cover art and track list. Now you can hear a track from 1,000 Years. “Doubt” starts out okay, but really gets strong at the breakdown, when Tucker comes back in over the hand claps and organ.

As we mentioned, Corin Tucker’s been working on her debut solo LP. Now it’s got a name and a release date: 1,000 Years (how long it’s been since Sleater-Kinney announced their indefinite hiatus) will be out via Kill Rock Stars on October 5. As you can see, the release is under the name “The Corin Tucker Band,” which is Sara Lund (Unwound), Seth Lorinczi (Golden Bears) and Tucker. The track list:

Janet Weiss has been busy with Quasi’s American Gong and Carrie Brownstein puts on the best in-stores when not blogging for NPR. Now, after a long hiatus, Corin Tucker’s moving back into the music thing: The former Sleater-Kinney co-vocalist/co-guitarist is working on her debut solo album, due at some point via Kill Rock Stars. She’s again part of a trio, this time backed by the Golden Bears’ Seth Lorinczi and Hungry Ghost’s Sara Lund (RIP Unwound). The 11 new songs are being put to tape at the Bears’ Little Golden Book home studio. In an interview with The Portland Mercury, we’re told Sinéad O’Connor’s The Lion and the Cobra, the Slits, the Raincoats, and the English Beat are all inspirations for the new material. As is Quasi’s aforementioned American Gong. She also spoke with the paper about her decision to take time off from music and “just be a mom for a while” — she has two kids — along with plans for a tour, etc. We also find out that she uses an acoustic guitar and goat nails on the new songs. And there’s this bit about the subject matter. And a Sleater-Kinnery reunion?

New Eddie Vedder (Feat. Corin Tucker) – “Hard Sun”

EdVed (thanks for the nickname, Nic Offer!!!) buddy Sean Penn produces and directs the forthcoming biopic Into The Wild (based on a novel of the same name by Jon Krakauer), dealing with the life and times of Christopher McCandless: a road traveler who starved to death at 24 after a temporarily successful/ultimately doomed attempt to live off the land in the Alaskan wilderness. Billboard reports that Vedder is the main music man involved with the flick’s soundtrack, with some assists from Kaki King; composer Michael Brook; and on the Gordon Peterson (aka Indio) cover “Hard Sun,” Sleater-Kinney punk princess Corin Tucker.

The Vedder/Tucker track’s out there for your listening pleasure, and it’s a nice treat for PJ lovers, opening with campfire acoustic-jangle feel, Corin filling out the refrain with open-skied harmonies, before moving into big hard sun ‘n’ fuzz-guitar terrain.
