Wavves, Diplo, Pictureplane Model Mishka

Wavves’ Nathan Williams, Pictureplane’s Travis Egedy, HEALTH, Glitch Mob, Tearist, and Diplo are among the musicians you can see in Mishka’s lookbook teaser video. It’s a preview of their summer look, and, by reading this description of the collection, it sounds like they’ve picked the right bands to use:… More »

Remixtape: Vol. I

Most remixes are shit. This new feature exists in defense of The Remix. So, welcome to Remixtape: a monthly compilation of the best recent remix MP3s floating around the internet because despite the glut of garish promo bloghouse crap, there are actually still people doing this thing artfully. Because there’s an actual art to thi… More »

Diplo: Fashion Model

A few of you thought Diplo looked great in his Blackberry torch commercial, but this series of Alexander Wang ads pushes Diplo from spokesmodel to model model, especially since he’s situated next to a blond in a lot of eyeliner (removing her top). Well, at least Diplo trades his Blackberry smirk for a model-like Very… More »

Diplo Remixes Sleigh Bells

Tough terrain to (re)tread, this Treats track “Tell ‘Em” from our old neighborly BTW Sleigh Bells. Not because its thunder-beats blasting serrated-guitar self-affirmation pop is untouchable, necessarily, but because it’s already been so thoroughly touched up and turned out by Night Slug extraordinaire Kingdom, who flipped its ferocity from brightly lit gutchecks (“Have you done… More »

The Streets – “Going Through Hell (Diplo Remix)”

Last week we brought you “Going Through Hell,” the first released track from Mike Skinner’s last album as The Streets. Diplo’s remix completely removes the guitar hook and withholds Skinner’s vocal until the end. In their place? Booming horns and ticky drums. Listen:… More »

Robyn – “Dancehall Queen” Video

Robyn put “Dancehall Queen” on Body Talk PT. 1, and it appears again on her just-released Body Talk 3 . The song’s new video doesn’t have Robyn in it, but it’s got street scenes and women dancing seductively, while the song’s lyrics appear at the bottom. Co-director Ryan Staake (Pomp&Clout) describes it as a “really… More »

The 10 Best Videos Of The Week

The best videos this week are mind- (and pixel-) bending clips from !!! and Nite Jewel, sexy videos from MEN and Robyn, a Halloween-themed massacre from La Sera, and a glossy, District 9-esque thriller shot on location in India from You Say Party. It takes a lot to keep people watching the whole three minutes,… More »

Deerhunter – “Helicopter (Diplo & Lunice Remix)” Video

Diplo and Lunice’s stuttering remix of Deerhunter’s “Helicopter” has a video now. It’s directed by The KiD, who used footage from Andrey Stvolinsky’s film “Slow Moscow.” The slow motion of the original, combined with the back and forth edits of this video, give the illusion of depth (meaning, the video feels like it’s in 3D… More »

Diplo – “U Don’t Like Me (Datsik Remix)” (Feat. Lil Jon) Video

Diplo and Lil Jon appear in digital form, fighting, racing, or competing in a dance-off in this entertaining clip. Spoiler: Diplo loses. A lot. This video was created by Taiwanese production house NMA. It’s the same company that makes those reenactments of big/silly news events, like the Tiger Woods affair. More »

Diplo Makes You Want A BlackBerry Torch

…but more importantly, this BlackBerry Torch commercial makes you want Diplo’s life, playing shows, Twittering, Facebooking, visiting Japan, Jamaica, and Outer Space. Watch for the Skerrit Bwoy and Mad Decent website cameos, too:… More »

M.I.A. & Diplo – “4thepeopleontheboat” (Demo)

Diplo tweeted a link to this “lost” M.I.A. song, presumably from the /\/\/\Y/\ sessions. As you can tell, it’s a demo, without much more than M.I.A.’s processed vocals, a beat, and a grinding synth, but Diplo also said he may leak the full version soon. Listen:… More »

Das Racist – Sit Down, Man Mixtape

Plenty more on this new Das Racist .zip later, surely, if our posts on the last mixtape and this one’s trailer/tracklist and everything else we know about Das Racist are any indication. For now though we finally conquered a sluggish download rate spat by a server buckling under the strain of many downloads by a… More »

Pitchfork Music Festival 2010: Sunday Recap

The final day of 2010’s Pitchfork Festival was just as hot as Saturday, with stages that needed quick shots of energy to pull the audience out of its languor. Girls were pretty but wispy — though they sounded stronger as I walked over to Washed Out, who had the audience clapping along to his set. More »

Diplo & M.I.A. Are Frenemies

M.I.A.’s big New York Times Magazine piece reveals a lot about the singer, and a lot of it isn’t good. Writer Lynn Hirschberg includes barbs both small and large in her 8,000 words on the artist. (Example: “‘I kind of want to be an outsider,’ she said, eating a truffle-flavored French fry.” Emphasis ours.) But… More »

Sia – “Clap Your Hands (Diplo Remix)” (Stereogum Premiere)

There was a regrettable lack of constant, persistent hand-clapping in Sia’s “Clap Your Hands,” the second single from the Australian singer’s upcoming We Are Born. In his remix, Diplo focuses on hand-claps, and adds some “Pon De Floor“-esque pitch-shifting. It takes it in a seedy direction, especially compared to the fun-house-party feel of the original. Progress Report: Robyn

NAME: Robyn
PROGRESS REPORT: Mixing the first of three mini-albums she will release this year.

A big part of Robyn’s story is how, when she felt frustrated with her former label, the Swedish singer started Konichiwa Records and decided how she would write and market her music. The downside of all that… More »

Major Lazer – “Sound Of Siren” (Feat. M.I.A. & Busy Signal)

This track surfaced yesterday, initially reported as a Busy Signal track featuring M.I.A. from the dancehall dude’s Hott Ed Turf!!! mixtape, a credit later clarified by Diplo as “actually part of the major lazer EP thats out in APril.” Major Lazer EP out in April! New I Blame Coco (Feat. Robyn) – “Caesar” (Diplo Remix) (Stereogum Premiere)

“Caesar” is the debut single from 19-year-old Coco Sumner, daughter of one Sting. She performs under the unintentionally topical name I Blame Coco. The electro-pop cut features a vocal from Robyn, who was just covered by Ted Leo. (Incidentally, Ted Leo definitely doesn’t blame Coco.) Now “Caesar” gets a remix by Diplo, who is producingMore »
