Combine a hobbyistic niche extreme sport, Kristen Wiig, and an indie rock soundtrack featuring roller derby enthusiasts like the Breeders and you have a movie that could be a lot of fun. Whip It stars Ellen Page (Ghost Cat) and was directed by Drew Barrymore. Who doesn’t like Drew Barrymore? Not Jens Lekman. She flew the songwriter out to LA and convinced him over coffee that Night Falls Over Kortedala‘s “Your Arms Around Me” was in good hands if he licensed it to her film. When she’s not busy writing songs for Jenny Lewis, you’ll find darling Drew locked away, iPod on repeat, getting inspired. She recently shared her top tracks with an iTunes Celebrity Playlist, and hey, it’s not bad! PB&J’s “Young Folks,” as expected (“I went and saw them live and the song sounded fantastic!”), Spank Rock ’cause it’s the cool thing to do, Clap Your Hands And Say Yeah, Kings Of Leon — and definitely no Strokes. Here’s her list, peppered with her patented smiley-faced gushing.

Lily Allen’s music reminds us of last summer, so braving the cold to 30 Rock was a no brainer. YES, we just returned from the dress rehearsal for Saturday Night Live, which should be around 50% funny once they cut some slack for live. You’ll enjoy The Dakota Fanning Show (with Drew Barrymore as Abigail Breslin), an ’80s-tastic Digital Short, and a cameo from Horatio Sanz as Elton John in a painfully laugh-free Versace Super Bowl Party sketch. We’re curious what’ll get the axe (fill ya in later!).

Lily did “Smile” and “LDN,” and man we are just not sick of this girl yet. Plus, it’s fun to watch her brass boys recreate that Supersonics lick live. In fact, we’ll be at Webster in one week for her show.

We imagine Drew and Lily getting trashed at the afterparty tonight, dissing boys and complimenting each other’s trainers. Also worth noting: Drew wore a Peter Bjorn And John T-Shirt during the end credits.

The most interesting difference about dress rehearsal and live: in dress, the American Idol sketch had Jason Sudeikis playing Ryan Seacrest and Bill Hader as Simon Cowell. For the live show Seth Meyers did Seacrest, and Sudeikis did Cowell. Fascinating!

Also, Drew wore a different wig in the Target sketch … which didn’t make it funnier. But she seemed nice like a nice gal.

Here’s the thing with actors: Give ‘em a political role, soon they’re offering foreign policy suggestions off camera. (Thespian, know thy place!) And we love Drew, but maybe she’s guilty of letting a role play her. In her upcoming ’80s-music loving Music and Lyrics, Drew plays a natural born lyricist (offering impromptu lines like “but with some magic, we just might switch”). Forgetting that a script writer assembled her verbiage, Barrymore’s next stop: Pitching a tune to Jenny Lewis. (via Contact)

I was listening to this album by Jenny Lewis called Rabbit Fur Coat; it was just my favourite album of 2006. “I was obsessed with it and she made me think I could write a song. It’s probably really terrible. “I actually know her, so I should show it to her and see what she thinks.

So she admits it’s probably terrible. And, she probably has some Fab fodder to work through. And we sorta love the idea of a Drew and Jenny video. Look at how cute! So twee you could strangle a kitty.

On Valentine’s Day weekend nine years ago, Drew teamed up with Adam Sandler for The Wedding Singer. Maybe ’80s-music romantic comedies are her thing! This lover’s day, she pairs with Hugh Grant for Music and Lyrics, featuring Haircut 100. (And Drew’s haircut #100?)

FUN FACT: Looks like Drew learned to sing for it. In Woody Allen’s Everyone Says I Love You, every actor BUT Barrymore sings their songs. (She told Woody her singing was too awful “even for the realistic voices” he wanted. She said she doesn’t even sing in the shower! BS, we say.)

NOT SO FUN FACT: Drew and Fab are over. No Stroke cameos in Music and Lyrics, as far as we know. Good thing — that red carpet would have been awkwaaard.
