Rick Alverson’s The Comedy is a film about bored, aging hipsters and the film, which stars Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim of Tim And Eric, Awesome Show, Great Job! fame, recently screened at Sundance. James Murphy, himself the gold standard for aging hipsters, appears in the film and Alverson posted a clip on his Vimeo page featuring Wareheim, Heidecker and Murphy heckling a cabbie. Murphy doesn’t speak. Watch it below.

Last week video surfaced of passionate (ostensibly ecstasy-friendly) National fans dry humping to “Bloodbuzz Ohio” at Coachella. The moment was captured by Eric Wareheim, who eventually turns the camera on himself for a “look at these guys” cameo. He should be proud: It’s the best Ron Artest-related music clip I’ve ever seen.

Yasmine Kittles, who says she’s influenced by Artaud’s Theatre Of Cruelty (etc.) and records with Former Ghosts, is the primary focus of Tearist, her L.A. PPM (and Pictureplane)-stamped duo with ex-Silver Daggers/No Age touring member William Strangeland on synthesizers. For instance, that’s her on the cover of the band’s first full-length LP Living: 2009-Present. If you’ve seen them live, and watched Kittles smash and scrape metal while singing for her life, you’ll understand why. Documenting that live energy, Living isn’t a typical debut LP: The songs here are a collection of “audience recordings made in warehouses, lofts, [and] concert halls.” As they explain it, “multiple versions and performance tapes are spliced, mashed, layered, collapsed and collaged to create an organically flowing album. Full songs cut with snippets and interludes capture the band in its early formation.” They reference Suicide, Sonic Youth, the Stooges’ Metallic K.O., etc., in the process. A couple of Best Videos Of The Week ago I mentioned how nearly every good clip that week was too long, too nude, or too violent to make it on to MTV; one was even removed from YouTube, verification wall or not. But looking back on 2009′s picks, it’s easy to notice that this year’s videos feel different from last year’s too naked for work clips. Last year Flaming Lips, Matt & Kim, Girls, and Major Lazer all featured nudity and sexuality, but it was all playful, joyous, sorta innocent. That’s true of the videos at the highest numbers. But most of this year’s are darker, more violent, and make you more uncomfortable. You only need to take a look at the Flaming Lips’ video from the hippie celebration in “Watching The Planets,” to their series of videos starring single white females being bound, tortured, and bled out, to notice the trend. Yet with the exception of maybe the M.I.A. video, none of the clips this year were created to be particularly shocking. If you thought last year’s parade of nude videos was perhaps too beautiful, then maybe this year’s violence will be too pretty. Tim & Eric’s Eric Wareheim continues stockpiling hipster cred by taking a directorial credit on this new Major Lazer video. He brought a bit of an Awesome Show Great Job! sensibility to that clip for MGMT’s “The Youth,” but this one is more akin to his work on that hardcore-sex-masked-by-cute-animations piece for Flying Lotus. Maybe Eric misread the title as “Porn On De Floor.” Or maybe Eric just really loves putting banger beats to people banging. Anyway, great job! Not safe for any workplace which frowns upon acrobatic dancehall dry humping though.

Eric Wareheim Makes MGMT A Video For “The Youth”

Obviously you guys all own the Tim And Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! Season One DVD, so you’re as excited as we are about these videos the guys have been making lately. They don’t star in “The Youth” unfortunately (that’s a right reserved to Ben Folds, here Eric just takes a directing credit), but it does blend their typically awesome, great production style with MGMT’s fashion sense, bringing a quartet of choreographed kids to Casey and His Brother’s set (I think). Also, much more SFW than that Flying Lotus clip (I know).
