Gorillaz – “DoYaThang” (Feat. James Murphy & Andre 3000)

“DoYaThing,” the previously-announced blockbuster collaboration from the Gorillaz, James Murphy, and Andre 3000 is now online in radio-rip form, and we’ve got it streaming below. As promised, Damon Albarn quasi-raps a couple of verses before Andre jumps onto the track and generally rips him to shreds. Also, Murphy sings the chorus in a weirdly squeaky… More »

Next up in Converse’s “Three Artists, One Song” series (here are some previous ones) is the previously-announced collaboration between Gorillaz, James Murphy and Andre 3000. It’s officially out next week, but a snippet of the track, as well as a the-making-of video, surfaced online recently, both of which you can check out below. I’m partial… More »

Gorillaz, James Murphy, Andre 3000 To Team Up For Converse

Over the past few years, Converse has been teaming up trios of unlikely artists to record songs for the show company; the last one had Matt & Kim, Andrew W.K., and Soulja Boy. The next entry in that series, however, looks to be its biggest-ever by far; it’ll have Gorillaz hooking up with former LCD… More »

Gorillaz Greatest Hits On The Way

Hard to believe, but Gorillaz, Damon Albarn’s cartoon-pop project, has been going for 10 years now. In recent months, there have been rumblings that the project will soon come to an end, but it won’t disappear without releasing a greatest-hits album. Next month, they’ll release The Singles Collection: 2001-2011, and we’ve got the tracklist below. More »

Miley Cyrus Covers Gorillaz

At the closing Gypsy Heart tour date in Perth this evening, Miley dedicated Plastic Beach’s “On Melancholy Hill” to two of her dancers who are getting married. But I think it’s really dedicated to you because you loved her Nirvana cover so much. More »

80 Other Bands With Official Sneakers

Last week the Animal Collective bros released an official mixtape for their new … sneakers. That is a thing now. Gotta keep fans on their toes (ouch, sorry). The shoes which you can see here benefit the Socorro island Conservation Fund, and they are cruelty free, except to your eyes.

I did some… More »

Snoop Dogg – “Sumthin Like This Night” (Feat. Gorillaz)

Gorillaz appear on Snoop Dogg’s upcoming album Doggumentary, but this song feels like it would have worked on Plastic Beach. In fact, I’m pretty sure it’s a leftover from the same sessions that produced “Welcome To The World Of The Plastic Beach” — the collaboration mentions Gorillaz within the opening lines and goes into a… More »

While We Were Out

… and then it was 2011. Hopefully your New Year’s celebration involved doing something more celebratory than being berated by a solo Ariel Pink from a makeshift stage in a Bushwick warehouse, and hopefully you are back on the internet with a lot of hard drive space and some well rested ears: There was a… More »

The NME reports Damon Albarn’s cooked up a new album on his iPad, while on the road touring through America, and is making an Xmas gift of it to people who venture over to gorillaz.com on 12/25. Gorillaz – “Welcome To The World Of The Plastic Beach” (Feat. Snoop Dogg) Video

Gorillaz’s website has an Advent calendar up, where they’ll be revealing surprises every day until Christmas. Today’s surprise? A video for “Welcome To The World Of The Plastic Beach.” The clip’s pretty simple, just Snoop Dogg dressed as a Revolutionary War-era soldier/circus ringleader while doing his guest vocal. Maybe he could perform this one for… More »

Gorillaz Cover the xx

Gorillaz visited BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge to do acoustic versions of “On Melancholy Hill,” and “Doncamatic,” and a cover of The xx’s “Crystalised.” “Doncamatic” guest vocalist Daley was also in the studio, and he backs up Damon Albarn for their quiet, sparkling version of “Crystalised.” (Note that Daley has to wear his studio headphone… More »

Gorillaz – “Doncamatic” Video

Guest vocalist Daley stars in this almost-Gorillaz-free Gorillaz video, though it stays on theme. In the clip Daley navigates past schools of fish, sharks, and coral down to the ocean floor, which is covered in tanks and discarded warships. He finally surfaces right next to the plastic beach on the album’s cover. Watch:… More »

Gorillaz LP4 A “Love-Letter To America,” Damon & Flea’s New Band Needs A Name

When not getting worked up about Glee, Damon Albarn is already planning Gorillaz’s followup to Plastic Beach. In an interview with stuff.co.nz during the band’s American tour, Albarn went over his plans to do another album with The Good, The Bad, & The Queen, as well finish up a record with a new band with… More »

Gorillaz, N.E.R.D @ Viejas Arena, San Diego 10/28/10

Gorillaz rolled down to San Diego to bring their multimedia and guest star extravaganza to the Viejas Arena. The fact that Mick Jones and Paul Simonon share the stage with Damon Albarn should be enough of a reason to catch this tour before Gorillaz goes back into hibernation.

UPDATE: Grab this, a Joker… More »

Damon Albarn Still Dissing Glee

Daman Albarn is not fan of Glee. He’s made this known previously, basically saying he wouldn’t allow his music to be used on the show, calling the covers they do “a very poor substitute for the real thing.” While doing an interview with Q TV he reiterated and expanded his position. More »

Gorillaz On Letterman, MSG With Lou Reed & Friends

Gorillaz did “Rhinestone Eyes” on Letterman Friday night. It worth watching from the introduction, where the band’s hurried soundchecking interrupts Letterman several times. If you were in the audience at the Ed Sullivan Theater, you also got a 45 minute set of new and old Gorillaz songs, which you can also watch below. More »

Gorillaz – “Doncamatic (All Played Out)” (Feat. Daley)

@Gorillazband released a new, previously unheard single today via Twitter. It’scalled “Doncamatic,” and Zane Lowe played it on his radio show earlier today too. Rising Manchester singer/songwriter Daley does vocals. It’s got a different feel from a lot of Plastic Beach. Probably why it didn’t appear on the album:… More »

Gorillaz File Some Sessions For AOL

Gorillaz visited AOL’s Sessions, performing “On Melancholy Hill,” “Rhinstone Eyes,” “Broken” and “Glitter Freeze.” Mick Jones and Paul Simonon joined Albarn for the session, which the site recorded shortly after Gorillaz’s headlining show at Coachella. That’s in addition to the two drummers and quartet of background singers. Still Albarn’s the focus here, and even if… More »

Gorillaz – “On Melancholy Hill” Video

No Bruce Willis in this video, just the Gorillaz cast of characters, and a narrative explaining how they found the plastic beach on their album cover. According to the NME, this video, along with remixes by Japanese Popstars and She Is Danger (with an extra “Stylo” remix by Labyrinth) will be available as a special… More »

Pixies, Gorillaz, Elvis Costello Cancel Israel Gigs

Bands are canceling gigs in Israel following last week’s raid on a group of aid ships heading to Gaza. Elvis Costello posted a carefully-worded letter on his website outlining his reasons for canceling his concerts in Israel, acknowledging that he needed to “sift through [his] own conflicted thoughts” on Israel before playing there. According to… More »
