Lace Curtains – “Bedroom Honesty”

Harlem member Michael Coomer now leads a new band called Lace Curtains, and they’ll release their new album The Garden Of Joy And The Well Of Loneliness next month. Coomer debuted their slinky new song “Bedroom Honesty” in a Craigslist Casual Encounters post, and I’d love to know what kind of emails he got i… More »

The 20 Most Overlooked LPs Of 2010

There were more albums released in 2010 than could fit on all the lists released in 2010. (And there were many lists.) With that in mind, and certain ’10 records still ringing in our ears, we put our heads together and thought about some of last year’s favorites that, for some reason or other, didn’t… More »

Siren Festival 2010 In Photos

Village Voice’s annual Coney Island rock extravaganza turned 10 on Saturday and went down as sweaty and free as years past. Harlem – “Gay Human Bones” Video

Maybe not as much manic fun as Hippies‘ other single “Friendly Ghost,” but “Gay Human Bones,” from Austin-via-Tucson (represent!) trio Harlem is still solid, and has a catchier, moody chorus. I also noticed that the video has a brief appearance by Hunx, whose video cameos are always memorable. More »

New Harlem – “Friendly Ghost”

Austin trio Harlem opened the Emo’s show last night that found Jay Reatard getting jumped by a couple of angry (and drunken) show-goers. The guys are known for their frantic live shows, so maybe they’re to blame for getting the crowd worked up into such a froth? Who knows, but you can take a liste… More »

CMJ ’09: Weekend In Photos

One last gargantuan batch of photos from an exhausting, exhaustive week of NYC showgoing. On Friday Jessica Amaya joined us at Doveman‘s record release party at the Elevated Hole, a Chelsea loft owned by the Yale English Dept. chair Michael Warner. The room was a perfect foil for Doveman’s candlelit Conformist material, along with guest… More »
