On his show last night, David Letterman played host to an interesting collection of talent: Astral soul-queen Erykah Badu, star producer Mark Ronson, legendary Meters drummer Zigaboo Modeliste, and various and sundry Dap-Kings. They all got together to play a vintage-sounding bit of Louisiana jazz-funk called “A La Modeliste,” and it was all very Treme. Watch it below.

Last week the Animal Collective bros released an official mixtape for their new … sneakers. That is a thing now. Gotta keep fans on their toes (ouch, sorry). The shoes which you can see here benefit the Socorro island Conservation Fund, and they are cruelty free, except to your eyes.

I did some research, and it turns out that dozens of indie and punk bands have licensed sneakers. Most are quite ugly, and many — Biz Markie Keds, Bad Brains flip-flops — are hilarious.

As we mentioned last month, Thom Yorke has teamed up with Bryan Ferry, Mark Ronson, Bob Hoskins, tennis player Andy Murray, and British Prime Minister David Cameron for a silent charity single called “2 Minute Silence.” I made a John Cage reference. People debated the concept. It’s almost time for you to download those two minutes of absence. The track was originally coming out 11/7, aka Britain’s Remembrance Day, but the official release date’s now 11/8. Regardless, on that official release date you’ll receive a link to an MP3 and an official video. Mark Ronson Covers Arcade Fire

Boy George pal Mark Ronson and his Business Intl. covered “We Used To Wait” on Jo Whiley’s BBC Radio 1 show. If you recall, our surprise CMJ headliners the Drums offered their take on The Suburbs track a couple months ago. Ronson’s version is more straightforward, doesn’t make me think of the Cure — though it does make good use of a xylophone.

With a nod to John Cage, Thom Yorke has teamed up with the resurgent Bryan Ferry, Mark Ronson, Bob Hoskins, tennis player Andy Murray, and British Prime Minister David Cameron for a charity single called “2 Minute Silence” that will indeed feature two-minutes of silence instead of the usual charity single’s saccharine sentiments and blandly catchy chorus. It goes on sale 11/7, aka Britain’s Remembrance Day. Royal British Legion Director General Chris Simpkins explains: “Rather than record a song, we felt the UK public would recognize the poignancy of silence and its clear association with remembrance.” Here’s the 11-second teaser.

Boy George and producer/Miike Snow singer Andrew Wyatt joined Mark Ronson on Later… with Jools Holland for their contribution to his guest-filled upcoming lp Record Collection. Ronson also brought along MDNR, who played keyboards and did backing vocals. But Boy George’s voice is the focus, especially on this minimal, rather quiet track. Watch:
