Captured Tracks Five-Year Anniversary Festival @ The Well, Brooklyn, NY 8/31/13 & 9/1/13

Over the past five years, Brooklyn indie label Captured Tracks has delivered a meticulously curated output, from superstars-in-their-own-right DIIV, Wild Nothing, Beach Fossils, and Mac DeMarco to reissues of ’80s UK indie pop luminaries like the Cleaners From Venus and the Wake with a legion of other artists in between. So it was more tha… More »

MINKS – “Margot”

From Brooklyn outfit MINKS’ forthcoming Tides End comes “Margot,” a synth-streaked new romantic swooner centering on a dancing girl named Margot, West Coast dreams, jangly guitars, and drum patches. A sighing chorus that implicates California and plans to runaway is mathematically certain to evoke summer romance, so this is a nice add for your summer… More »

MINKS – “Painted Indian” & “Everything’s Fine”

The Captured Tracks outfit MINKS are set to follow-up 2011’s By The Hedge with Tides End, so named after an estate the band encountered on the East End of Long Island — where the band decamped to combat a case of writers’ block — inhabited by eccentric, isolated residents in a state of financial decline. Stereogum Monthly Mix: December 2010

Appropriately, and by design, the December edition of our Monthly Mix is the iciest. In the comments of the last installment Scott joked about me doing an “all black metal” mix, but as you’ll notice when you read through the below tracklist, I opted to go for darkness in different corners. In case you missed… More »

Stereogum & Popgun STEREO★GUN CMJ Party, Santos Party House, NYC 10/20/10

Last night our STEREO★GUN collaboration with PopGun Booking went down on both floors of Santos Party House. Sometime from when we organized it, to the actual happening, people got especially excited about Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., who found themselves with a relatively raucous, packed room by the time they played their basement set. There were… More »

STEREO★GUN: MP3 Primer, RSVP Reminder

If live music is a thing you enjoy, you could do worse than to visit our fair city next week — from like noon until whenever you get tossed out of your evening destination, from Tuesday to Saturday, there will be bands playing all over the Lower East Side, and Williamsburg, and other neighborhoods you’ve… More »

Stereogum & PopGun Present STEREO★GUN: ALL NIGHT LONG 10/20/10

Every autumn NYC’s week-long college music marathon is a great excuse for radio promoters and DSLR-toting bloggers to hobnob with famous publicists. Those who attend on official CMJ bizness even receive a canvas tote bag of promotional garbage. Also there are panels? I’m told There Will Be Panels. Joking aside, in its 30th year CMJ… More »

Stereogum’s 40 Best New Bands Of 2010

With fall on the horizon, we’re escaping a slow summer and shifting into that final, fertile phase of the music year’s release cycle. Which makes it a ripe time to get some perspective on the year, in terms of the big records from past favorites, and here, the bands that have introduced themselves as new… More »

Minks – “Funeral Song” Video

When we last wrote about gothy new wave BTW we posted a high-diving found-footage video for “Funeral Song.” The track now has a Blank Dogs-style visual treatment featuring hooded cyclists, hands emerging from the sewers, street-side memorials, and sneakers marking territory in the band’s stomping grounds. Band To Watch: Minks

Like previous BTW World Unite/Lucifer Youth Foundation, Minks comes with few details. Their MySpace says they’re a Brooklyn project, and this live video, taken from a May show at Glasslands, shows six people in their live line-up. Their website is unhelpful. Like Brooklyn’s the Drums, Minks harness a few of the best traits of gothic… More »
