In anticipation of the 5/17 release of his new album Destroyed (and an accompanying photo book of the same name), Moby’s upped the free Be The One EP to his website. In a post about its three tracks he wrote: “‘be the one’ was in the paul haggis movie ‘the next 3 days,’ ‘sevastopol’ is an interesting city in the ukraine, and ‘victoria lucas’ was sylvia plath’s pseudonym.” No mention of Robbi. You might have liked it better when it was called Jennifer’s Body. And you probably loved it when it was called Date With The Night: The Nick Zinner Story. Watch the trailer at Videogum.

Last night The Simpsons celebrated 20 years with an interesting documentary In 3-D! On Ice! directed by Morgan Spurlock, featuring a bit too much Morgan Spurlock and one of Moby’s seven (seven!) Mr. Plow remixes. Also, Andrew W.K. played the theme song. Neat!

Steve Earle, Moby, Norah Jones, Michael McDonald, and Tina Fey’s fave Elvis Costello also lent their voices to help Milton Green get a kidney. Watch the “We Are The World” parody here.

Moby’s “Ooh Yeah” framed itself as a porn satire with a bunch of sexual innuendo, but no actual money shot. This new animated “Shot In The Back Of The Head” clip involves a different sort of projectile: The colorful ha-ha mood of “Ooh Yeah”‘s jettisoned for an elliptical, somber storyline about a man in love with a disembodied head and the disembodied head who loves him. There are no words, so you’ll need to pay attention to the stark, squiggly black and white imagery. It’s very unlike Moby’s more recent work, which is to say, it’s not annoying.

When we last spotted Moby (two hours ago), he was pumping his fist in the air with Fucked Up, showcasing his obvious love of “Blitzkrieg Bop.” This Matteo Bernardini-directed video for “Ooh Yeah,” from the bald one’s latest album Last Night, is a porn satire that’s more about the Strokes the ladies. My guess is that it’s SFW, unless your boss/coworkers are against innuendo, Moby, or scantily clad women washing a car.

There’s bound to be more clips surfacing from Fucked Up’s free 12-hour show at the Rogan Store (330 Bowery, NYC) yesterday (10/14), but seems like video of the Toronto-based bathroom re-designers doing a cover of “Blitzkrieg Bop” with Moby on guest guitar/vocals is as good a place as any to start. (Other guests included J. Mascis, Vivian Girls, Ezra Koenig, etc. Akon didn’t show, ha ha.) Last night a friend and I were talking about how it’s pretty fascinating to see Matador putting so much into The Chemistry Of Common Life. I’m a longtime Fucked Up fan and dig the new record (though have to say I think Hidden World‘s better at this point), but who’d of thought the label would be pushing hardcore — even in this updated form — so hard(core). Anyhow, Moby looks like he’s having fun.
