Triumph Of Lethargy Skinned Alive To Death’s sixth proper LP Some Of Us Are In This Together is a sludgy, slow-mo, pained, ultimately transcendent collection — sort of like the Pacific Northwest back-patch punk take on Harvey Milk’s A Small Turn of Human Kindness, if Unwound decided to go glacial, or if Slint had more emotional vocals projected raggedly. We’re told Triumph originally took inspiration by combining a chapter of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Beautiful And The Damned with one of guitarist Corey Brewer’s “imaginary metal bands.” Whatever you call it, I’ve been playing it loudly on repeat. The band features Murder City Devils’ yowler Spencer Moody in heart/blood-on-my-full-sleeve preacher mode and Pretty Girls Make Graves’ Andrea Zollo on drums (and some vocals) with bassist Joel Cuplin and Brewer. (Full disclosure: Corey and I used to hang out in Bellingham in #the90s.) The video for “The Dirty Street” was directed by Clyde Peterson, who’s also done clips for Horse Feathers, the Thermals, Thao, Quasi, etc. This one’s “a found footage film, recut, projected and rephotographed using the ‘Hipstamatic’ app for IPhone one frame at a time.” The footage comes from “Jealousy” from the 1954 instructional series Marriage For Moderns.

Sad news for fans of the best Seattle punk outfit to be named after a Smiths song (or for a line from Kerouac’s The Dharma Bums — either way, cool). Posted on their site today:
