Pinkerton Diaries Details

Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo has long been talking up the release of his book The Pinkerton Diaries, a sort of scrapbook of the time he spent recording Weezer’s classic-as-all-hell 1996 album Pinkerton. It’s finally coming out now. On his website, Cuomo claims that he’ll release The Pinkerton Diaries 12/12. The same day, he’ll also release Alone III, his third outtakes collection, which will cover the same period of time and serve as a companion to the Pinkerton book.

When Cee-Lo puts out a single, he gets maximum bang for his buck; though “Fuck You” first appeared on YouTube thanks to this “lyric video,” he eventually got around to making an official clip. So, for his new single, one might guess he’s going with the same formula. Cee-Lo’s latest lyric video for “Anyway,” a song co-written by electronic outfit Wallpaper and Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo, is after the jump.

Rivers Cuomo Covers “God Only Knows”

Rivers Cuomo posted this solo, intimate cover of the Beach Boys’ classic “God Only Knows” after Christmas. It’s hard to top the original Carl Wilson vocal, so you can see Cuomo concentrating very hard on those falsetto notes. He’s also playing the piano with his eyes closed for most of this video, and he shot it by himself in his home studio, so that also adds to the intimate atmosphere. Watch:

It’s been mentioned in passing, but Weezer fan Bethany Cosentino (NME Cool List No. 4) recently spoke with LA Weekly in more detail about her collaboration with Rivers Cuomo (NME Cool List No. 75). The song’s a duet called “Go Away.” She co-wrote it with RC. The weekly will run the interview in full tomorrow (Thursday), but has just posted a “teaser” at their site. Bottom line? Cosentino’s “inner 13-year-old” is stoked:

Rivers Cuomo is one of the many guests on B.o.B.’s debut album (Lupe Fiasco, Janelle Monae, Hayley Williams, and Eminem also show up). His appearance could be the weirdest, next to the Vampire Weekend sample on “The Kids.” Cuomo sounds chirpy but forced on the chorus. It seems like he’s having fun in the video, where, honestly, he doesn’t look 40 years old (wearing the same vest and glasses for the last decade or so also helps you look ageless). Not sounding his age? A bit of a problem for Cuomo when it comes to Hurley. Watch his B.o.B. spot below:

Weezer’s “raw rock” LP Hurley is out 9/13 via the band’s new label Epitaph. You’ve heard “Memories” and you know Dan Wilson and Ryan Adams guest. You may have even heard the whole album. (Premature Evaluation coming soon.) Now that Weezer have represented for soccer (Rivers even wore a Thierry Henry jersey at Williamsburg Waterfront Friday night), it is time for them to find the plot and write some decent pop-rock songs again. Following Raditude the band left longtime home Geffen and will be signing with an indie to release an album 9/13, according to an interview with the Danbury, CT’s New Times.

Rivers Cuomo loves soccer. How much? So much that he’ll be spending a lot of Bonnaro (they’re headlining tomorrow night) watching the highly anticipated match between the U.S. and England. As he told MLS:

They are actually playing the game on a big screen at the festival. So if you can believe it, I’ll be sitting in front of that big screen with all the other concert-goers watching the game. As soon as we realized we were going to confirm that show, we asked the promoter if they were going to be showing the game. They’re actually making a big deal out of it.

“Represent” is Weezer’s unofficial tribute to the U.S. Men’s National Team, who will make the quarterfinals, if Cuomo’s predictions are accurate. The band released it online via Radio Weezer last night, and it’s got inspiring lines like “It matter how you play the game” and “It matters that you can take the pain” over laser synths. Get pumped:

Big week for Nickelodeon’s delightful hipster kids show Yo Gabba Gabba!. Yesterday Sarah Silverman debuted the “Time To Mime” dance and Black Kids sang “We Love Clowns.” Tomorrow Anthony Bourdain plays a doctor and of Montreal perform a nutritious original called “Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast!” (Previously Kevin Barnes & Co. taught YGG! viewers the importance of dental hygiene.)
