The list-topping oddballs of Animal Collective are taking a break from solo gigs and DJ sets to set their sights on the Sundance Film Festival where, tonight, they unveil their ODDSAC, “an earthy, psychedelic experimental narrative infused with [the band's] aural and musical sensibilities.” In other words it’s a visual album, and it has a trailer which is trippy, if you can believe that. Depending on your indie-oriented-site-that-ranks-bands-on-ten-point-scales of choice, it seems Animal Collective are second only to Radiohead as the aughts’ most relevant band. And with the bevy of activity the Collective has lined up, they seem to be angling to extend that well into next year.

There’s something old: a reissue of the out-of-print 2003 album Campfire Songs, originally distributed by Catsup Plate, now being re-released under the auspices of their own label, Paw Tracks on 1/26/10. There’s something current, in the just announced “Brothersport” 10″ b/w a live “Bleeding.” But now it seems Avey, Geologist, Panda Bear (and possibly Deakin) are offering something new: Today all eyes are on this Amazon page which has an $11.38 pre-order price for something called Fall Be Kind, due on Domino 12/8 (via P4K). We’ve already had a Crack Box, so just maybe this is the new Animal Collective record you guys have been waiting so patiently these nine months for.

If you have money and/or connections, Washington DC is the place to be today. There are so many people gathered for the presidential inauguration, CNN is shooting from a satellite in space! But sadly some celebrities are stuck in Park City, Utah, forced to navigate gifting suites instead of cheering our new 44th president. We might have forgotten about the Sundance Film Festival altogether if it wasn’t for a few of our favorite musicians making the scene. Death Cab For Cutie’s Ben Gibbard makes his acting debut in Brief Interviews With Hideous Men directed by The Office‘s John Krasinski, based on the David Foster Wallace story. His fiancée Zooey Deschanel (the She half of She & Him) co-stars in 500 Days Of Summer. Guitar documentary It Might Get Loud features guitar connoisseur Jack White. And Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek were on hand to promote Doors doc When You’re Strange. They all posed for photos. Mariah Carey was there too, but you’re on you’re own with that.
