Our first taste of the Concretes’ forthcoming WYWH came via the after-hours disco of “Good Evening.” When we posted it, I mentioned ex-lead vocalist Victoria Bergsman is still busy with Taken By Trees (and thereby with Korallreven), so as on 2007’s Hey Trouble, co-founder/original drummer Lisa Milberg handles those increasingly assured vocals vocals. She, and piles of books in a cozy looking apartment, are the subject of this Thomas Klementsson-directed video for “All Day,” a another breezy, chilly WYWH track.

“Good Evening” is the first taste of the Concretes forthcoming WYWH. Three years later, she sounds more comfortable doing it. Then things get a bit after-hours disco.

There’s only so many bellwether bedroom jams you can release from a Philadelphia fortress of solitude before public appearances will be demanded, and the prolific Dayve Hawk (aka lots of names, although it’s Memory Tapes for purposes of this posting) is finally making himself available to those who’ve been waiting patiently to seek Magic in the flesh. Saturday night at The Corner in Manchester was this project’s first live show ever; last night at the Social came next. Davye was joined by a drummer, playing guitar and cueing his Macbook, at a show opened by Mat Riviere and featuring a DJ set from the Concretes’ Lisa Milberg. Paul Bridgewater delivers these photos to us (a few more appear at Ill-Fit). MT have a third UK gig at North London’s Luminaire tonight with Pantha Du Prince. Lykke Li Performs With Swedish Indie All Stars

Sure it was charming when Lykke sang “I’m Good, I’m Gone” in a bathroom. But get your mind out of the toilet and observe: the sweet Swedishness of this clip simply cannot be touched. Here’s Ms. Li with special guests Robyn, Adam & Bebban (Shout Out Louds), Daniel (The Concretes), Lars (Laakso) and Mikael (Hjalmar). It’s directed by Ted Malmros + Christian Haag.

New Concretes – “Oh Boy”

The squalor of Victoria’s departure behind them (she’s off taking care of Taken Trees), the Swedish septet the Concretes soldier on with this year’s release of their third LP Hey Trouble, from which the four-to-the-floor first single “Kids” waded out a few months back. The band’s quietly been adding tracks to their MySpace since, including the exquisite mope-pop of “A Whale’s Heart” and now the sunnier, tom-rolling tune “Oh Boy.” Have a listen here. Missing Ms. Bergsman? Hey, there are still plenty of Concretes in the mix, and you gotta give ‘em credit: they have excellent taste in home deco.
