Oddly enough, the vocal melody in “Everybody Knows It´s Gonna Happen Only Not Tonight” reminds me of Jets To Brazil. Maybe not the first thing to pop to mind when discussing Belgian electro-pop whisperer Dieter Sermeus and his Go Find. The new album, which follows 2007′s Stars On The Wall, also includes a duet with Mintzkov’s Lies Lorquet, “Just A Common Love,” that has a melody reminiscent of NIN’s “Hurt.” In both cases, the echo adds something appealingly familiar to the hook. So far I haven’t found an analog melody for “It’s Automatic,” but maybe something will come to mind while you watch the chirpy track’s playful clip, which was directed and produced by Kurt Marx and the Go Find. At the very least you’ll note the echo of Everybody Knows It’s Gonna Happen Only Not Tonight‘s mountainous album art and Sermeus’ ability to handle various instruments at once when not sweeping up after his bandmates.

Belgian knob-twiddling crooner Dieter Sermeus has returned with Everybody Knows It’s Gonna Happen Only Not Tonight his followup to 2007′s Stars On The Wall. Just in time to cash in on Owl City’s success. Just kidding. We’re told the electro-acoustic collection’s “a celebration of sincere love.” You should be able to hear a bit of that in the smooth, hushed title track (complete with horns). Also, maybe I haven’t had enough coffee, but the vocal melody reminds me of (whispered) Jets To Brazil.

Dietur Sermeus is a few weeks from the release of his follow-up to the Stereogum beloved Miami, this time working with his live band to craft an album with a little less electronica but every bit the melancholic hook crafting. Here’s the vid for the smooth-pop excellence of “New Year,” with the cheekiest fashion choices we’ve seen this side of Antwerp. You can get so much mileage out of a motorcycle helmet in indie rock these days.

Finally picked up that limited edition Morr Music Japan 2004 tour CD. In addition to cuts by Syrofoam and Isan, it includes two from The Go Find, who many of you said you liked. The Isan songs are very chill … recommended if you’re into armchair electronica that sounds exactly like Air’s “Alone In Kyoto.”

The Go Find is the alter ego of 28 year old Antwerp knob-twiddler Dieter Sermeus. Like The Postal Service’s sleeper Give Up, Go Find’s Miami is a winning blend of melancholy electronic soundscapes and irresistable vocal hooks (i.e., these are songs, not muzak), with subtle acoustic guitar thrown in for good measure. Dieter’s voice never really takes center stage, it’s more of a vibey album. But highly recommended if you like indie electropop like TPS or The Notwist.

I ended up buying this album by default over the weekend. I was at Kim’s on St. Marks on a mission to find the Morr’s Japan-only 2004 tour CD, but it wasn’t in stock. It’s got Styrofoam covering Elliott Smith and Sebadoh. Check out a two minute stream (Real Audio):
