Last year, the eminently lovable hardcore pro-wrestling legend Mick Foley wrote a weirdly fascinating Slate article about how he came to become a Tori Amos superfan. In the piece, Foley writes how a wrestling colleague named Maxx Payne first played Little Earthquakes, Amos’s solo debut and watershed moment, for him in 1993. And he also goes on about how he’d psych himself up for excessively gory Japanese death matches, in which he and Terry Funk would tear each other to shreds with barbed wire and thumbtacks, by playing “Winter” over and over. It’s an indelible image: This gigantic scraggly-bearded motherfucker sitting in a fetal position in the locker room, rocking back and forth, getting ready to bleed buckets by losing himself in this quietly gorgeous confessional. And it also strikes somewhere near the heart of Little Earthquakes: These are, after all, absorbingly beautiful songs about wracked, devastated emotional states.

David Byrne & Fatboy Slim – “Why Don’t You Love Me?” (Feat. Cyndi Lauper & Tori Amos)

Make this the third take on David Byrne’s highly collaborative bizarro concept album about shoe-loving dictator’s widow Imelda Marcos. Totally normal sentence. A co-credit on the sounds goes to Fatboy Slim, and credits on the vocals are spread among a deep cross-section of female headliners (from St. Vincent and Róisín Murphy to Sharon Jones) and Steve Earle. The dig into the double-disc began with the humid funk of Santigold Byrne’s “Please Don’t,” continued with Florence The Machine Welch’s dramatic title-track/album-opener, marches on with the smoothly glam, brass-and-woodwinded dance jam “Why Don’t You Love Me?,” fronted by Tori Amos and Cyndi Lauper because why not. Details are emerging on the Renaissance Man’s Here Lies Love, a concept album about Imelda Marcos, shoe-obsessed widow of the Philippines’ former dictator. Byrne wrote the project with Fatboy Slim and promises every song will have a different vocalist. Among them: Santigold, Roisin Murphy, Sharon Jones, Alice Russell, and Tori Amos. Forever the showcase for hot up-and-coming talent, SXSW hosted a special performance by Tori Amos this year. The unforgettable M.I.L.F. took the opportunity to debut three songs from her forthcoming Abnormally Attracted To Sin, Tori’s tenth studio album. For this record she’s shelved the schizophrenia in favor of tunes about mother/son pot-smoking negotiations and greetings from Britain. There’s no drastic reinvention afoot in lead single “Welcome To England,” and that is not a bad thing: paired with typically killer beats from drum hero Matt Chamberlain, Tori hits an edgy, percussive groove through the verses and turns in a surprisingly vibrant track for such an aged vet. The hook turns to too-smoothed adult-contempo-pop, but hey, strong first single. And you’d take Tori slinking along gold-wrought fences over the nonsense limo-driver scrum at Heathrow as a welcome to England any day.

SXSW: Tori Amos Debuts Three From Abnormally Attracted To Sin

Tori Amos played a 50 minute set at La Zona Rosa last night, delighting hundreds of folks who recognize a rare opportunity to see a milf straddle a piano bench during SXSW. It was Tori’s first time taking part in the Austin festival, and she made the most of it by debuting three tunes from her forthcoming tenth LP Abnormally Attracted To Sin. The set was introduced by famed music blogger Perez Hilton, who revealed that Little Earthquakes made him the man he is today. Thanks for that, Little Earthquakes. As for the new material, Tori described “Mary Jane” as a true story about a boy who wanted permission from his mom to smoke up. “Lady In Blue” and “Curtain Call” sound prettier and more promising. Charles Hamilton Drops Another Mixtape

Harlem-via-Cleveland’s Charles Hamilton has been polarizing blog comments sections for a few months now. The self-promotional, self-referential rapper is halfway through a three month blog tour that finds him releasing eight, DJ Skee-assisted mixtapes “in an effort to reach close to two million unique visitors combined instead of thousands potentially going city to city.” He’s a blogger, too (the self-proclaimed “best blogger alive” in fact), and diligently maintains his Facebook/Twitter/MySpace/YouTube. Along with his irreverence and prolificness, this social networking finesse makes Charles a poster-boy for Web 2.0 hip-hop. The kid’s also turned the requisite rap alter-ego into a joke by adopting a Sonic The Hedgehog avatar on all his releases. Reviewers have generally praised CH’s laid-back flow, though it’s hard to get a legit read since the top eight hip-hop blogs are hosting his publicity tour. Anyway! Did I mention he samples Lykke Li? Tori Amos? And the Clash song that M.I.A. sampled? I thought you might be curious about those.

Last we heard from Tori Amos, she was kicking girls out of her show for not paying attention. It’s not clear how she’ll react if you don’t concentrate 100% while reading her new comic book. That’s right, not only does Tori have a 12-inch cock, she has a comic book! It’s called Comic Book Tattoo and sprawls to an impressive 480 pages. Tori’s that rare performer that’s been known to whip out a gun just to capture your imagination. But if you’re sitting up close and she sees you disengaged from the show? Fuck the gun, she’ll just kick your ass out. Via Dlisted:

[Wednesday] night [12/12] at her San Diego show, Tori Amos showed two girls that she doesn’t mess around. Two girls were seated in the front row and I guess they kept coming and going as they pleased. While playing “Code Red”, Tori stopped halfway through and told the girls “Get the fuck out of my show! It’s a privilege to sit in the front row and I reserve those seats for people who appreciate music, get the fuck out!” A dude then came out and escorted the chicks from the front row.
