30 Rock is usually Videogum’s beat, except when someone like RAC (whom we know well) remixes Tracy Morgan and Donald Glover’s “Werewolf Bar Mitzvah.” Which is what happened, and what we have here. The track comes as a bonus commemoration of the show’s official soundtrack, a two-disc release featuring the show’s supplemental score along with proper songs voiced by various members of the 30 Rock cast. (E.g. Jane Krakowski on “Make A Pizza” and “Muffin Top”; Tracy Morgan and Jack McBrayer on “I Will Always Love You.”) The OST also took a fleeting Liz Lemon joke about a Christopher Cross song on her life and made it into a reality, which we can all agree is very cool at least from a 1981 Grammys perspective. It’s called “Lemon’s Theme” and is performed with the full-on Chris Cross vocal smoothness and instrumentation you’d expect from the sailor. MP3s of both of those tracks are below.

The soundtrack also comes in a Collector’s Edition which features “2 discs of original music bundled with a custom book of exclusive photos, cast commentary, scripts, and more.” We have one of those to giveaway. It’s signed by the cast. The person who gets that will ALSO get all four seasons of 30 Rock to date on DVD. Basically, this is knocking out a big chunk of your holiday gift list, if you win.

The trio appeared together on yesterday’s Night of Too Many Stars benefit on Comedy Central to help raise funds for autism research. This skit about Morgan and Rock’s attempt to sing “Scarborough Fair” is overly long and fairly flat, but it may be your only chance to see Paul Simon do his Snoop Dogg impression. Remember, it was for a good cause.

Yep, that was “Two Weeks” you heard during the ad where Stevie Wonder hard-knock punched Tracy Morgan, Slug Bug style. But who were the old dudes covering the CSI theme at halftime? Check the Grizz and Arcade Fire spots ads at Videogum.

A big part of what made Saturday Night Live‘s recurring yuletide classic “I Wish It Was Christmas Today” so perfect were the sight gags: Tracy Morgan’s dead-eyed dance, Chris Kattan’s head shake, even Jimmy Fallon’s inability to keep a straight face through triggering the Casio presets. Horatio Sanz’s blissfully silly vocal was just the ornament. This version doesn’t have any of that — in fact the vocal is played as straight as “Boombox” — but it’s hard to fuck up a classic. As reported yesterday, Julian Casablancas continues to epitomize NYC awesomeness (even while paying rent in Los Angeles) with a straight-laced downtown rock take on the last decade’s finest contribution to the Xmas canon. It sounds like an early Strokes b-side, which is weird! As the malls of America have taught us, it’s never too early to get into the gift giving spirit, so give one to yourself with JC’s holiday tune.

Detroit Octane, aka writer, actor, and Adult Swim-er Jon Glaser and friends, have penned a ridiculously catchy (and just ridiculous) campaign tune for Barack Obama (he’s the new black). It’s set to Robert Palmer’s “Simply Irresistible.” We’d say Jon Glaser For President, but this whole thing is about electing somebody else for president. So instead we’ll say just watch. There are more forced rhymes than on an R. Kelly track.

Gotta love Tracy Morgan, right? Well, even if you haven’t in his SNL past — which we find hard to believe — dude nails it with this seemingly unending, “sweaty,” riffing Halloween and Judaism tune, which started out as an aside on 30 Rock regarding a video he’d done for a song, “Werewolf Bar Mitzvah.” Key line: “I nearly dropped the Torah when my hands turned into paws.” (As scary as a $10 million bat mitzvah with the Aerosmith and Eagles in attendance?) Okay, there are others: “Boys becoming men. Men becoming wolves!? The lo-fi visual montage (wolf, Bar Mitzvah, Michael J. Fox, etc.) really adds to the hair-raising experience.
