Obama Seeks Endorsements From Arcade Fire, Vampire Weekend?

MTV reports that President Obama has “a wish list” of campaign supporters for his upcoming 2012 run for re-election and points to a document obtained by The Tennessean. The list includes, among others, Arcade Fire, Vampire Weekend, Jay-Z, The Roots, Counting Crows (?), the Band Perry (??) and a boatload of other celebs, CEOs, musicians and Jonas Brothers. According to MTV, the Obama camp has not confirmed (or denied!) any of this, so keep that in mind as you scan this random smattering of a list. Despite the image, Lil B is not on the register — yet. In the meantime, I guess we can start the #ObamaAtSXSW viral campaign.

Watch New Pop-Up Videos For Vampire Weekend, White Stripes

The vaguely snarky but ridiculously informative VH1 video-trivia show Pop-Up Video is totally back, and it’s lately shone its spotlight on a couple of indie-ish artists. Recent episodes have included pop-up treatments of the Malloys’ video for Vampire Weekend’s “Holiday” (the one where they wear powdered wigs) and Sophia Coppola’s video for the White Stripes’ “I Just Don’t Know What To Do With Myself” (the one where Kate Moss stripper-dances). The videos are both great, and the show remains very, very entertaining. Watch both clips below.

Back in September, Vampire Weekend multi-instrumentalist and producer Rostam Batmanglij posted a new track called “Wood,” a lighter-than-air Bollywood/classical/pop fusion, on his Tumblr. Today, he’s followed it up with “Don’t Let It Get To You,” a glimmering electronic pop piece. Listen to it below.

Vampire Weekend multi-instrumentalist and production guru Rostam Batmanglij has posted a new track called “Wood” on his Tumblr. It’s six minutes long, and it throws incandescent string arrangements over Bollywood-style drums. It’s pretty gorgeous, actually. Grab it below.

How Independent Rockers Celebrated #IndependenceDay

How did you celebrate July 4th? On a rooftop BBQ listening to our summer mix? Maybe you stayed in and watched old episodes of Hoarders on Roku? Maybe I stayed in and did that. There is no way to know. But all across this great country we do know there were fireworks to be seen and Beyonce to be heard singing “God Bless America” live on TV.

Via the magic of Twitter we also know some of our favorite musicians spent the day overeating, overdrinking, watching Independence Day, and in two cases, recklessly planking. I’ve posted the best tweets below chronologically, and collected any attached photos in a gallery above. Click through for pics of Bethany Cosentino’s boob coozie, the National and Beirut sharing a meal, Mrs. Wayne Coyne topless with Cheetos, and a photo of outdoor fireworks from Ducktails intended to rub it in to those of us you who spent the night inside watching Hoarders. Whoever they may be.

Vampire Weekend, Bright Eyes To Headline Inaugural MTK Festival

A new two-day festival, Music To Know, launches this August in East Hampton, New York with appropriate headliners Vampire Weekend and Bright Eyes along with Cold War Kids, Matt & Kim, Chromeo, Tame Impala, Ra Ra Riot, and M. Most of the Ceremony soundtrack is an original score by the Fruit Bats’ Eric D. Johnson (with a little help from Van Dyke Parks), but there are a few additional songs from The Animals, Pete Townsend, and Star, as well as this cover of Paul Simon’s 1972 solo track “Papa Hobo.” Grab Koenig’s cover below, and watch a preview for the film. Ceremony was directed by Max Winkler, son of Henry Winkler.
