Scott misses Cleveland and, it seems, vintage Smiths. The Deluxe Edition of “Happy” In Galoshes includes a second disc housing this cover of “Reel Around The Fountain” from Morrissey & Co’s 1984 self-titled debut. Between this and that Bowie impression, it feels like Weiland’s trying to position himself amid legendary vocal company. Does it work? Well, the Smiths’ original’s such a great song it’s nice to hear it again, but Weiland doesn’t add much beyond a cheesy alterna breakdown toward to the end. He is good at alterna breakdowns.

Scott Weiland may be Happy In Galoshes, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t “Missing Cleveland” (and the snow). Whereas the video for the Bowie-esque “Paralysis” had him wandering the outback like Indiana Le Bon and occasionally sucking face with his dark-haired lady friend, “Missing Cleveland”‘s all about obsessing over his rocket, dressing up in his astronaut outfit, starting a family, and sucking face with his blond-haired lady friend (this is why he’s so into “galoshes”). Don’t ever lose sight of your dreams or where you came from, kids.

You’ve heard Scott “Paddington Bear” Weiland’s second solo album in bits and plenty of pieces, but now a week before its release (11/25), you can listen to all of Galoshes in one fell swoop.

It’s unclear if we should be taking election advice from someone who has trouble standing up, but at his official website under the header “Somewhere just past immigration Texas, USA,” the Stone Temple Pilot lets us know, among other things, that “it’s our imperfections and our willingness to persevere that makes us stronger.” Which is why he’s endorsing himself for President.

As we continue documenting the downfall of grunge’s old guard, it’s worth noting Scott Weiland’s still a mess. Velvet Revolver might be reduced to joining forces with Spacehog, but Weiland recently joined forces with Eric Kretz’s drum kit. The Arizona Republic reports that at STP’s 7/29 show at the Dodge Theatre in Phoenix, Weiland appeared on stage before the rest of his band and mumbled about Velvet Revolver, forgot lyrics to certain tracks, mumbled others, and fell backwards into Kretz’s kit. With Scott Weiland out the door and on STP tour, Slash & friends are reportedly going to replace Mr. Reliable with Royston Langdon, the dork who fronted the English band Spacehog. They had a hit with the “In The Meantime” that wasn’t by Helmet. More impressive? He bagged Liv Tyler (until she left him recently). Read more about his possible new VR role here.

It feels like we’ve typed the words “Scott Weiland” more times in the past month than during the height of the grunge era. Fair enough, we didn’t have a blog during the height of the grunge era, but he has been in the news: After Weiland’s onstage antics and subsequent firing from Velvet Revolver, he performed his first STP show in ages, kick-starting their summer tour. You can’t keep a multi-tasking ex-junkie down, so of course he has other plans, too. For starters, as Billboard reported last week, he’s recording a solo double album with Steve Albini, and plans to release it in November. Now Weiland’s blogged about that, as well as a forthcoming autobiography.

After Scott Weiland was very publicly kicked to the curb and decided to focus his considerable energies on the Stone Temple Pilots reunion, we had hopes for some sort of GN’R hatchet burying, but it looks like the revolving door of Velvet Revolver has other ideas. (And, by the way, that’s not their new vocalist in the accompanying picture cozying up to Weiland — it’s legendary rock ‘n’ roll photographer Jim Marshall … but dare to dream.)

Responding to being axed by the remaining Revolvers, Weiland’s one-upped ‘em in the bitchy prose department with a statement he sent to MTV via email sometime today. We all knew he’d issue one of these before he got down to writing new STP songs…
