When Air announced the details for their forthcoming Le Voyage Dans La Lune a little while ago, one of the more interesting wrinkles was that one song would feature vocals from Beach House’s Victoria Legrand. That track has now surfaced; hit the jump to stream “Seven Stars.”

It was a beautiful evening at the Hollywood Bowl for the KCRW-sponsored tribute to Serge Gainsbourg curated by Beck. The all star line up included Ed Droste (Grizzly Bear), Victoria Legrand (Beach House), Mike Patton (Faith No More), Sean Lennon & Charlotte Kemp Muhl (The Ghost Of A Saber Tooth Tiger), Zola Jesus, Lulu Gainsbourg, and up-and-coming rocker Joseph Gordon-Levitt all backed by Beck’s Sea Change era band. After playing a number of classic Gainsbourg tunes, Jean Claude Vannier conducted a recreation of Gainsbourg’s album Historie De Melody Nelson. C’était magnifique. Grizzly Bear/Beach House @ Hollywood Palladium, LA 10/20/09

Tonight Grizzly Bear wrap up their five-month US tour with a sold-out Solana Beach gig before heading to Europe with St. Vincent. Yesterday we showed you a few pics from their Treasure Island set; today we’ve got a gallery from last night’s party, a hometown gig for Dan Rossen. Openers Beach House explained that they were tired of playing their old songs, then delivered a handful of cuts from LP3 Teen Dream, out via new home Sub Pop 1/26. As expected, Victoria Legrand later joined headliners GB on “Two Weeks” and “Slow Life,” a song from the controversially cool vampire movie soundtrack that failed to knock an Oprah-endorsed Bublé from the top of the charts. Grizzly Bear Bring “Two Weeks” To Conan, Announce Deluxe Veckatimst

The last time Grizzly Bear visited Conan, the Tonight Show host was still doing his show out of NYC and the band was just starting to prime the pump for Veckatimest with a pre-release performance of “While You Wait For The Others.” That was over a year ago. Last night the band visited O’Brien in Los Angeles with their Beach House BFF Victoria Legrand for a take “Two Weeks,” on the same day they announced the release of Veck special edition package. Turns out that album’s got legs. (And turns out that’s Matt Popieluch from Foreign Born on the shadowy keys back there.)

ZOMG New Moon Soundtrack Leaked

While Death Cab and Annie Clark talk up their New Moon contributions, Thom Yorke has remained suspiciously mum. We can only assume he is a fan of vampires and of letting his music speak for itself. His “Hearing Damage” leaked this weekend, along with the rest of the OST, and as far as recent Thom solo recordings go (see “Horses“), it’s entirely accessible, with a swoon-worthy chorus over pulsing synths: “Your speakers are blowing/ Your ears are wrecking/ Your ears are damaged/ You wish you felt better/ You can do no wrong in my eyes.” Have a listen to that and more:

Hear Grizzly Bear’s “Slow Life” In Full

Grizzly Bear, who are just about as all-over-the-place as Thom Yorke these days, join the Radiohead-head and some other indie luminaries on the OST to the Twilght sequel. But you read the internet, so you already knew that. What’s eluded laptops, though, is a glimpse greater than 80 seconds of the band’s soundtrack collab with Beach House’s Victoria LeGrand, titled “Slow Life.”

As it happens the two acts are on tour together, so it looks like “Slow Life” has become a nightly setlist fixture, here captured in full from last night’s stop in Columbia, MO. The song itself is nothing like the last time Ed and Vic shared vocal duties, instead a perfect Grizzly House sort of mesh: the pair trading verse and chorus vocals, harmonizing over an intimate then cascading song that sounds like lovesick nights and shooting stars. No wonder the vampires bit. Watch and listen:

Is The New Moon Soundtrack The Best Album Of 2009?

Whoops, looks like two cultures just got shocked. Obviously that headline is a joke! Except that maybe it isn’t? Rumors had been swirling about Thom Yorke and Bon Iver penning songs for the The Twilight Saga: Teen Vampires In Love Some More soundtrack, and those rumors are confirmed with today’s OST tracklist, exclusively revealed by MySpace. But you already knew that because MySpace is your homepage. And hey, this thing looks good, like mini-Dark Was The Night good.

In addition to Thom’s new tune “Hearing Damage,” and Bon Iver’s duet with St. Vincent’s face on a song called “Rosyln,” Twilight scored previously unreleased tracks from Grizzly Bear and the Killers. Atlantic, in conjunction with soundtrack curator Alexandra Patsavas’s Chop Shop, will release the album, and so there’s a correlatively strong showing of Atlantic-affiliated artists (Death Cab, Lykke Li, and Muse, the lone holdover from the first film’s OST) and a Patsavas pet (her Chop Shop puts out Anya Marina who made the cut). You’ve heard Death Cab’s “Meet Me On The Equinox.” Here’s a few more reasons you suddenly love vampires:

Grizzly Bear Does “Two Weeks” Live For The First Time With Victoria From Beach House

If Twitter’s good for anything (probably not), it could be the realization that most rock stars live lives primarily built of small moments just as routinely mundane as ours. Except for when they’re tweeting about stuff that makes this list. One e.g. from that spread was Ed from Grizzly Bear’s confession of undying <3 for Beach House, which he and his Grizzly mates took from the tweets to 6th Street in Austin this past Friday: First Department Of Eagles closed their set with a surprise cover of the Dead’s “Fire On The Mountain” with Beach House’s Victoria Legrand onstage as a makeshift Donna Jean Godchaux, and later that same night Grizzly Bear presented the Blackberry Showcase with the live debut of “Two Weeks” as recorded on Veckatimest, with Victoria’s wordless chorus vocal. The latter moment’s here for you.

SXSW 2009: Saturday In Photos

The last day at SXSW is always tinged with a depressing end-of-the-summer vibe. (Or maybe end of the school year?) However you want to frame it, once the Saturday sun sets, the remaining hours of four short days feel like the end of something bigger. Pass a hankie. Seriously though, even if SXSW didn’t introduce you to any new bands, if none of the panels figured out how to save the music industry (or even a dollar), and if the whole thing basically served as a fun (and elaborate) way to get some sun and see people you only ever see at festivals, it’s still a bummer. This 2009 edition was the most fun we’ve had at a SXSW in ages. Maybe it was because with less bands and fewer lines you had more time to talk and hang out with people. The folks who listen to similar bands as you. You know your — gasp! — community. That’s right, a slightly depleted SXSW brought things back to their basics … and we had a blast. In that spirit, we decided to fend-off the blues by spending the last day with a few excellent friends, cramming as much music as possible into the finale.
