Look we promise, we aren’t getting paid to post about Walk Hard. In fact, we think it looks disappointing. But THIS, well this is more like it. Plus, it has “Wave Of Mutilation” in it (whoa indie cred!). Get Drew Barrymore’s bf/Mac kid Justin Long, Jonah Hill, Paul Rudd, and The Office‘s Craig Robinson together for a little Rock Band, and watch the relaxed, spontaneous, meta-tacular fun ensue. It’s almost like they made it in response to everyone’s palpable onset of Judd-lash, no? Also, this and this were just a few months ago, meaning Apatow’s not only making bank, he’s closing the window of time necessary to effectively self-satirize. Take that, Jamie Fox.

Goldenfiddle asks why anybody would “want to watch the first 10 minutes of any movie before it?s in theaters?” After watching the first ten minutes of Walk Hard, your answer: To be underwhelmed, of course!

It’s all part of Apatow’s marketing rollout for the increasingly meh looking rocker biopic spoof that’s included some net-ready trailers and music clips, a little stunt casting, and some live dates for the Dewey Cox & The Hard Walkers Cox Across America Tour (which looks to be the best thing we’ve seen from the project yet, aside from Tim Meadows’s pot mouth). More marijuana movie talk. Yesterday, the freaks and geeks smoked a cross joint. Today, John C. Reilly in early, budding Johnny Cash attire, spoofing a scene straight out of Ray.

The trailer for Jake Kasdan and Judd Apatow’s all-star foray in musician biopic spoofing didn’t come off that well, but things look a little better as soon as John C. Reilly lip curls his way out to a an icy reception in this performance of the movie’s title track (“Well, looks like I’ve got some proving myself to do”). Tim Meadows (Sam) counts it off, John Michael Higgins nods along at the revelation that is this tune, Chris Parnell handles double-bass and harmonies, and iconic cocktail Dewey Cox — squarely in his Johnny Cash phase — soundtracks a montage of his trials, tribulations, and toilet tantrums. Not sure if Jack White does anything more than karate chop in this one.

See, the rumor mill does churn up morsels of truth from time to time. Our first report was grasping at wisps and whispers, but later sources confirmed Jack White (of Cold Mountain/Coffee and Cigarettes fame) was set to play Elvis in Judd Apatow’s forthcoming music-biopic spoof Walk Hard. Big thanks to reader Mitchell for sending in the trailer which sees Walk The Line and Ray merrily lampooned, with glimpses at Jenna Fischer as a June Carter type, Paul Rudd as John Lennon, and a White Stripe as a karate chopping King. John C. Reilly plays the iconic-cocktail Dewey Carter, a superbad blend of Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, and Brian Wilson (in a sandbox). So meta it hurts.

We have nothing to back this but an off-hand tease in an IGN.com article, but Jack White may be in talks to play the best singer of all time, Elvis Presley, in a feature-length parody of recent biopics like Walk The Line and Ray, entitled Walk Hard. IGN.com writes:

The late Elvis Presley may live onscreen once again, this time played by another rocker. The forthcoming musical biopic parody Walk Hard stars John C. Reilly as a Johnny Cash/Roy Orbison-type rockabilly singer named Dewey Cox whose professional and personal ups and downs are recounted in the film.

And who might play The King? None other than Jack White from The White Stripes and The Raconteurs. White is no stranger to Hollywood, having played small roles in Cold Mountain and Coffee and Cigarettes.

IMDB confirms John C. Reilly’s involvement, and ups the awesome with The Office‘s Jenna Fischer, SNL standout and Stereofave Kristin Wiig, and Anchorman‘s David Koechner (“Whaaamy!”). Alas, no official confirmation on Jack just yet — but as these pics show, it’s the role he’s been pouting for his whole career.
