Op-Ed: An Artists’ Dialogue On CocoRosie’s Grey Oceans

A few years ago I wrote a positive review of CocoRosie’s The Adventures of Ghosthorse And Stillborn. Too positive, it turns out: The publication that assigned it killed the piece at the 11th hour and instead ran a snarky takedown. I’d never had that happen before and I’ve been championing challenging music for a long… More »

Wild Beasts – “We Still Got The Taste Dancing On Our Tongues (Gatekeeper Gregorian Disco Edit)”

Gatekeeper’s bio says they’re “…conjurers of the kind of crimson splattered disco that terrified the babies of the ’80s.” That holds true for the Chicago group’s Wild Beasts remix. Though the clip doesn’t show up until the latter half of the song, the dialogue sample from John Carpenter’s Prince Of Darkness sets up what Gatekeeper’… More »

Wild Beasts – “We Still Got The Taste Dancin On Our Tongues” Video

Wild Beats’ previous Two Dancers video for “All The King’s Men” was set in a mystical forest peopled with various fair maidens (and the band). Merriweather Post Pavilion, Bitte Orca, is any label having a better year than Domino? Wherever that pair sits them, the bar’s raised once more with Two Dancers, the sophomore set from British art-pop troupe Wild Beasts (and, incidentally, one of my favorite albums this year). We’ve brought you the buoyant “All The King’s Men,” but… More »

New Wild Beasts – “All The King’s Men”

The buoyant “All The King’s Men” comes from multi-vocal UK quartet Wild Beasts’ second album Two Dancers, the followup to 2008’s Limbo, Panto. The group describes the collection as “a series of scenes … a big party, the street outside later on, or in a bedroom, or desperately hungry and starving to death on a… More »
