"Remaining fan"? Fuck you, Stereogum. Seriously. Shove your pretension up your ass. I can take a little bit, but I'm just tired of it. You've covered The Hives before, and you seemed perfectly fine with them then. But now? Oh, apparently it's not cool to like them anymore, so you'd better throw out a snide remark to entertain the kids. Drop the bullshit. It's not funny, it's not clever.

Serious or not, that doesn't change the fact that their lyrics and most of their music sucks, these days. Rivers is a lazy, unimaginative songwriter, anymore. It's sad. The band used to take the quality of their music seriously, even when they were goofing around. Pinkerton is a pretty goofy album in places, but there's no question that the band (or more specifically, Rivers) took the quality of the songs 100% seriously.

Sometime in 2001-2002, the band really stopped caring. Now, they just seem to knock out whatever tunes come into their heads, with little or no refinement. It's sad. I still love the guys, but they've lost that rockin' feeling, so to speak. I wish they'd disbanded after Maladroit -- and that's something I never thought I'd say.

Michael Cera's a smart man. His Frank Sinatra commentary made me chuckle.

Oh my fuck, they played "Susanne"? Never thought I'd see that day. And a Nirvana cover? Pretty decent setlist.

I'm still upset about the mixed-up vocals, though. While I commend the band for mixing things up and wanting to share vocals and also get the fans involved, most of the band's long-time fans would much rather hear the band perform the songs the way they were originally meant to be performed -- by Rivers. It's certainly true that Rivers once used to keep the band in a constant state of tight-assedness, but now I feel like they've maybe become a little too loose.

Still, sounds like a good show, despite the presence of Tom DeLonge and "Heart Songs."

Hey, back off, Ray. I was lusting after Meg long before you were even... uh, lusting after Meg. Well, if it cheers her up and helps bring her out of her vague funk, it can't be a bad thing. (And speaking of not-bad things, nice header picture. Wow.)

But still... Meg? Call me?

I don't blame him for getting pissed. It's one thing to make a song specifically for a commercial, but when you get the opportunity to write the theme song to a Bond film, you don't really expect your hard work to be initially flaunted in a bloody Coke commercial, for fuck's sake. Good on him for speaking up about it.

"It's long, so grab a coffee or something stronger."

Or, alternatively, don't read the fucking thing. Some people really need to stop being noteworthy.
