One of our favorite new groups Dum Dum Girls’ 11-song Sub Pop debut I Will Be finally has an official release date: We’re looking forward to March 30th and to hear what Richard Gottehrer (Voidoids, Blondie, the Go-Gos, the Raveonettes) has done with her dusky girl-group nodding noise-pop. For now we can be contented with her increasingly polished live shows. They played to a packed, appreciative audience this past Saturday at Spaceland in Los Angeles. Our intrepid photographer Andrew Youssef says “a girl fight broke out near the end of their set at the front of the stage,” but otherwise it seems like the vibes were positive. How could they not be with Pearl Harbor on the bill? Before Dee Dee & CO. hit the stage, PH’s Piper and Skylar did their peaceful dream-pop thing. Unfortunately the space wasn’t packed at that point, so a bunch of folks missed a live “Luv Goon” and “California Shakedown” along with a newbie, etc. (Pearl Harbor probably should’ve switched spots with the twee pop group the Tartans.) If you missed the show, no worries, Andrew took plenty of photos.
