Video Hangover: Crazy Town – “Butterfly”

Every week, we dig in the archives for videos that we find noteworthy, memorable, or just unbelievably stupid. And then, Jon McMillan breaks ‘em down for you. Why Video Hangover? Because when you watch as many videos as we do, you’re going to feel it afterwards.

Crazy Town, 1999

How many dudes does it take to play a RHCP sample?

Seriously: that is not a rhetorical question. “Butterfly” is just Seth Green and some Russian mafia guy (c)rapping all over a RHCP sample (“Pretty Little Ditty” if you’re scoring at home). Which is repeated over and over. For the entire song. I mean, the guys in the band must know it’s a sample, right? They don’t actually believe that music is coming out those instruments, do they? And yet the director keeps cutting back to band. This has to be at least a little embarrassing. Although I guess being a member of Crazy Town implies a high threshold for embarrassment. Also, Asian chicks!
