Peter, Bjorn & John got darker, donned leather, and grew mustaches in 2009 and were rewarded with a muted response to Living Thing, a collection known best or its enjoyable videos. Clearly undaunted, they’ve turned in a downcast take on Seals & Crofts’s 1972 soft rock classic “Summer Breeze” that sounds more like a late-Autumn zephyr. It’s the opening track from Indie Rocks! A Benefit Album For Malaria No More, a compilation that also includes contributions from the Walkmen, Great Lake Swimmers, Those Darlins, and, well, Third Eye Blind. Find out more about the cause at malarianomore.org and take a listen to PB&J’s “Summer Breeze” at HypeM. To be fair, I’ve always thought the original was depressing, too.
