Lykke, Jarvis, Karen O, Jack White, Brüno Vie For 2010 Oscars

The Academy has selected 63 songs that will contend for Best Song nominations for next year’s ceremony, and among them are songs not written by Randy Newman. Paul McCartney and U2 — “you may have heard of them” — both made the cut, of course. But dark horse Jarvis/”Petey” has a shot too. That movie is fantastic. (Get it? You get it.) A maximum of two songs can be nominated from any one film, so maybe one of you can explain why Twilight: New Moon has only Lykke in the running…

According to the rules:

“To be eligible, a song must consist of words and music, both of which are original and written specifically for the film. A clearly audible, intelligible, substantive rendition of both lyric and melody must be used in the body of the film or as the first music cue in the end credits.”

…if not Karen O and the Kids. Too bad Oscar always favors the old dogs.
