New Expensive Looks – “Living Scene”

New Yorker Alec Feld gives us some more of this chilled-psych bedroom thing, but adds a nice bit of post-punk grit to “Living Scene” via repetitious vocal taunts that escalate toward the end. Kinda like Mark E. Smith busting in on a Washed Out session? Feld mentions ’60s garage rockers the Chocolate Watchband and Zakary Thaks as influences… the grit comes from that part of the family. On other tracks he definitely locks into a more straightforward lo-fi space-rock thing (see “Found Out” or envision Magic Hour/Crystalized Movements as a less-nimble one-man band). Whatever the construction, the sound remains just as submerged.
