New Suzanne Vega – “Gypsy (2010)”

Suzanne Vega, who contributed to Dark Night Of The Soul last May and finds her self-titled debut turning 25 this May, is releasing a four-volume acoustic series: The first one, Suzanne Vega Close-Up, Vol 1, Love Songs, clearly focuses on love songs. A dozen of them. Each is a studio new recording, including updated takes on “Marlene On The Wall,” “Caramel,” “Small Blue Thing,” and one of the first songs she ever wrote, “Gypsy.” In conjunction with the disc, she’s doing a 33-city “Close Up” North American tour. Before that, though, in a less acoustic-only vein, she plays Lincoln Center’s Allen Room this Thursday (1/28) as part of their American Songbook series, where she’ll perform with Mike Visceglia and Gerry Leonard and a string quartet. As far as the tour, she’ll play the shows in standard venues, of course, and will also hit some Performing Arts Centers and Universities “where she will participate in symposia and workshops with students and the broader community.” Take a look at those dates while you listen to “Gypsy” and plan your Valentine’s Day or breakup.
