Ben Gibbard Stumps For Obama, Announces Tour

This fall, Death Cab For Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard will release Former Lives, his debut solo album. That’s the cover art, a painting from Joan Hiller, above. And Gibbard just announced a solo tour that’ll take him to a bunch of mid-sized North American venues this fall; we’ve got the dates below.

And in other Gibbard news, he’s the first celebrity to take part in 90 Days, 90s Reasons, a we web project from Dave Eggers and McSweeneys in which various celebrities are writing essays saying why, exactly, they’re voting for Obama. Gibbard’s essay is about how Obama is the first president to support gay people’s right to marry, and it has a personal anecdote about how his sister and their partner were finally able to get hitched.
