Free Energy – “Hope Child”

Free Energy” and its liberal use of cowbell and good-time guitar hooks opens the Philly group’s official James Murphy-produced debut Stuck On Nothing. You may also recognize the previously released “Dark Trance” and any number of songs from their live shows (see “Bang Pop,” for instance), but unfortunately, the band’s best song “Something In Common” remains a B-Side. As far as something new, clap along to “Hope Child” and feast your eyes on the sticky album illustration Make sure pay especial attention to the guitar sound, because, as Murphy notes: “I loved making that record. It was so good to record guitars again. I kind of forgot that I used to be really good at that — recording guitars.”
