Pattern Is Movement – “Light Of The World”

It’s been a minute since we’ve heard from Pattern Is Movement, last seen jamming with the Roots and D’Angelo at Brooklyn Bowl late in 2009, or turning in another of their inspired covers (check their Daytrotter version of “Crazy In Love,” and their title-track contribution to our own Enjoyed comp). But new material is nigh: Their upcoming tour-only EP includes new single “Light Of The World.” It’s rhythm first with these guys, and “Light Of The World”‘s percussion makes it simultaneously lurch and ripple. Though Dirty Projectors gets mentioned a lot with Pattern Is Movement’s vocals, something about their prim harmonies remind me of St. Vincent, especially once the blinking horn trills come in, just past the halfway mark.
