Watch Bobby Womack With Damon Albarn, Savages On Jools Holland

Earlier this year, Damon Albarn and XL Records boss Richard Russell teamed up to produce The Bravest Man In The Universe, the new album from wizened soul-music legend Bobby Womack. Both Albarn and Russell also played in Womack’s backing band when he appeared on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last month. And on the most recent episode of the British show Later With Jools Holland, both were back behind Womack, Albarn on piano and Russell on beat machine as Womack croaked the minimal lament “Please Forgive My Heart.”

On the same episode, the ascendant postpunk quartet Savages bashed-out their much-touted recent single “Husbands,” looking and sounding absolutely feral. Watch both performances below, and just imagine if we had TV shows like that over here.

The Bravest Man In The Universe is out now on XL, and “Husbands” is out now on Pop Noire.
