On Record Store Day, the great Toronto electro-pop crew Austra hooked up with Gina X, a culty German late-’70s/early-’80s postpunk singer, to release a 12″ single of a new track called “Mayan Drums.” The single was limited to 500 copies and sold out quickly, and the group is only now sharing one of the tracks from the single. It’s a remix from the Montreal producer and Grimes buddy Doldrums, and it’s a harsh, rudimentary pound that pays tribute to the first sneering punks to play around with drum machines.
