You Can Call Me Paul

You can now bid on lunch at Gramercy Tavern with Paul Simon and Chevy Chase (sorry, Ladysmith Black Mambazo will be out of town). Current bid is $1,400 but it’s estimated at $25,000. I wonder what the estimation is without Paul.

The coolest part of midlife-crisiseriffic “You Can Call Me Al” is that bass riff in the middle: it’s the same backwards and forwards. A musical palindrome, like the guitar solo of “What’s The Frequency, Kenneth?” I wish I had a third example, ’cause things go better in threes. Anyone?

The best ever “Call Me Al” cover version is of course “You Will Call Me Kompressor.” Colin turned me on to Kompressor about five years ago. Scary.
