Kevin Morby – “Miles, Miles, Miles”

Looks like Kevin Morby is taking a short breather from his excellent bands, Woods and the Babies, to release a solo album titled Harlem River. Before that comes out, though, Morby has shared the first single, “Miles, Miles, Miles,” a particularly lovely bit of folk rock. Backed by a slow and steady drum beat Morby sings over a glitzy electric organ melody, and as the song picks up the pace midway through, it begins to gain more and more confidence, making the goal of his many-mile trek seem a little more attainable. Morby keeps it a little vague perhaps as to whether this is a song about romance or friendship, but it doesn’t really matter. It’s right there in the title — this is a song about the journey and not the destination, and when Morby says “If you knew just how far I traveled,” and answers with “Miles, miles, miles,” every repetition of that distance feels like a declaration of love.
