Broken Bells, the duo of Shins frontman James Mercer and producer-to-the-stars Danger Mouse, will drop their sophomore LP After The Disco next month, and the two songs we’ve heard, “Holding On For Life” and the title track, promise bigger beats and slicker textures. If Broken Bells are now making something approaching dance music, then it stands to reason that the right remixer might put them all the way over the top into straight-up club-music territory. It’s a bit of a surprise that the first producer to do so would be Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner. But Zinner, in his “Holding On For Life” remix, has pushed the song’s thump to the point where it dominates the song, and that’s a good thing. Hear the remix below.
