Shut Up, Dude: This Week’s Best And Worst Comments

The College Dropout turned 10, and Kanye celebrated by launching another leg of his Yeezus Tour. Later this month he’ll appear on the first week of Late Night With Seth Meyers, which has a house band featuring Fred Armisen and members of Les Savy Fav. Meanwhile, Nike unexpectedly dropped his Red October Air Yeezys and if you’re not Questlove you’re not getting a pair. In beef news, New Zealand dissed Odd Future, Josh Homme dissed Imagine Dragons, and Drake dissed Rolling Stone, Macklemore, and Kanye (but he’s sorry if you misinterpreted his comments!). We talked to Kevin Drew, who released a sexy new video that is pretty NSFW, but it’s not nearly as explicit as Xiu Xiu’s. Do you guys have special Valentine’s Day plans or are you gonna stay home and cry to Benji?

It’s ironic that Drake ends up sounding like Kanye in that quote: “Yo, Phillip Seymor Hoffman, I’m really sad for you and I’mma let you finish, but I would’ve had the best Rolling Stone cover OF ALL TIME!”

But seriously, that Swaghili line is pretty bad.

What is the world coming to when you can’t insult Imagine Dragons without the entire internet weighing in? That’s not the internet I grew up in.

But, seriously. Fuck Imagine Dragons.

How about with “I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor” being a better song then anything by David Bowie, The Beach Boys or The Beatles?

I know you’ve probably heard this before and are choosing to stick to your “drug addicts are bad people” guns due to some comforting principle you like to believe in, but addiction isn’t a vice –– it’s a disease. This moralistic bullshit where people reduce that to “asshole makes bad decisions so of course they die” causes me endless brain pain. I’m all for not trivializing addiction and instead opening up a conversation about what that means and finding effective ways to help those who struggle with it (there aren’t nearly enough –– rehab, sure, but as we’ve seen those success rates aren’t exactly through the roof, and there’s still a huge social stigma surrounding addiction and mental illness writ large, for that matter). So I say put the dead drug addict on the cover!

THIS WEEK’S 5 LOWEST RATED COMMENTS

Listen, I have a parent who smokes and I have no sympathy for what’s coming their way because already, members of their family have passed away due to smoker-caused lung cancer. I’ve already said, “When you get cancer, I am not taking care of you. It’s your fault. You decided to continue killing yourself.”

Awww… Are all the people who liked his movies a bunch upset because someone has actually had the gall to remove the sentimental relationship with the subject out of it and hit you with the reality that an addict is an addict regardless of being a bum on the street or a celebrated actor? “Downvote me all you want…”

If it were my child, I’d probably spend less money on the grave marker seeing that they pissed their life away…

You are 1000% wrong because the “disease” you speak of is one which can have been avoided, much like cigarette smokers can avoid lung cancer and anyone who has sex can avoid an STD or worse by being as cautious as possible. It’s not like a heroin needle crawled up next to Hoffman’s head when he was in college and said, “I AM GOING IN YOU WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT!” Based on what I know of him, he was an intelligent man and I gather he was smart enough to know of drugs’ dangers, but he flagrantly disregarded them in that moment when he turned to them. He rolled the dice. He lost. He willingly invited the problem into his life, and to that say I say, “Oh well, you brought it upon yourself…”

“Downvote me all you want,” but I’m a hard-edged proponent of not glorifying people / celebs who pissed their fortunate opportunities away through drug habits and other vices, so I have to take Drake’s side about the cover for the mere fact that I don’t know of any disturbing unhealthy addiction’s he may have other than being in love with his fictitious sadness, but what else is new. The face of a drug addict memorialized and photoshopped to look healthy on the cover just sends the wrong message about the entire conversation. I’ll take the egotistical rapper up front, thanks.

THIS WEEK’S EDITOR-IN-CHIEF’S CHOICE

Mary Lou Lord | Feb 12th Score:-8

“Best to Worst”? “Worst to best” ? You’re a fucking idiot. You write well, but
you clearly have no business writing about music. Especially if you don’t
understand why those words/language is retarded.
