The cover for Literature’s sophomore album is a collage of flowers, cut up haphazardly and squished together in an explosion of color. Similarly, “The English Softhearts” is a pastiche of earlier sounds, indebted to the ’60s but in a smart and charming way that doesn’t attempt to hide its influences in a way that lesser bands often do. It’s right there in the title — the Philadelphia four-piece is all the way on the other side of the Atlantic, but they still feel obligated to tip their hat to the past. It’s capital-I capital-P indie pop, spry and witty and swelling with lush instrumentation. Listen below.

Literature’s sophomore album Chorus is out 8/19 on Slumberland Records.
