Morrissey’s latest droll dispatch not-that-subtly dissed Capitol subsidiary Harvest Records, with whom he aligned for the release of last month’s World Peace Is None Of Your Business. Moz was unhappy with the label’s efforts to promote the album, but he won’t have to worry about seeing eye-to-eye with Harvest anymore. According to a new post on fan site True To You, the label has severed ties with Morrissey:

Three weeks after the release of Morrissey’s World Peace Is None Of Your Business (#2 UK, #14 US), Capitol Records/Harvest have ended their relationship with Morrissey, as directed by label boss Steve Barnett.

Morrissey is once again in search of a record label.

For now, Morrissey remains listed on Harvest’s artists page, and a spokesperson for Harvest said she cannot confirm his departure from the label. Still, it seems likely that this is true. There’s certainly no shortage of potential reasons the label might want to dump him. Do you think Harvest cut Morrissey loose because he dissed them? Was it the album’s underwhelming chart performance (it’s not that hard for a name brand to debut in the US top 10 these days)? All those canceled tour dates and the accompanying drama regarding opening act Kristeen Young? The (vigorously denied) allegations that Morrissey asked a bodyguard to murder the webmaster of Morrissey-solo.com? Or maybe there was some internal friction we weren’t privy to? Ultimately, I suppose it’s None Of Our Business.
